V.C. Andrews published Flowers in the Attic in 1979. The book’s plot was shocking and quickly became a best-seller. The official series is titled the Dollanganger Series, as it follows the lives and generations that stem from four children who were locked away by their mother as she chose a life of self-indulgence, greed, and wealth over the well-being and care for children. The first film was released in 1987, and Lifetime remade the movie in 2014. The four Dollanganger children whose lives are the subject of the series are Christopher Dollanganger, Catherine “Cathy” Dollanganger, and twins Cory and Carrie Dollanganger.

Corrine Foxworth Dollanganger is the children’s villainous mother who locked and hid the children following the death of her husband.

Following Flowers in the Attic, is Petals on the Wind. The only movie previously developed into a movie from the series was the 1987 Flowers in the Attic. LMN was the first to develop the remaining books from the series into movies, including Petals on the Wind.

The book Petals on the Wind was published in 1980 and continued the saga of the Dollanganager children and their quest to fit into life while Cathy plots to exact revenge on her mother. Without spoiling the movie, Petals on the Wind centers on Cathy and her life as opposed to her siblings. The series is told from Cathy’s point of view, and she is the central figure in the series. Will Cathy ever find true happiness? Will she overcome the injustices and horrors she faced as a child? Can she ever open her heart to another person, or are her siblings the only people who will ever truly know her?

Petals on the Wind currently has a 6.3 IMDB rating. Petals on the Wind cast is as follows.

  • Heather Graham as Corrine Winslow
  • Rose McIver as Cathy Dollanganger
  • Wyatt Nash as Christopher Dollanganger
  • Bailey de Young as Carrie Dollanganger
  • Nick Searcy as Dr. Reeves
  • Dylan Bruce as Bart Winslow

Next in the Flowers in the Attic series is If There Be Thorns. While the books are told from Cathy’s point of view, If There Be Thorns is the story of Cathy’s children: Bart and Jory. Befriended by a strange neighbor, Bart’s personality becomes more sinister and troubling. Will Cathy ever have a happy, wonderful family, or is the Dollanganger line cursed by something wicked and nefarious?

If There be Thorns currently has a 6.0 IMDB rating. If there be Thorns cast is as follows.

  • Rachael Carpani as Cathy Sheffield

Told from Cathy’s point of view, Bart and Jory are adults, along with their adopted sister Cindy. Will history prevail in destroying the Dollanganger family line? Will religious fanaticism take root and turn Bart into the monster his grandparents were? Seeds of Yesterday is the last film in Lifetime Movie’s vault from the Flowers in the Attic series, though one more book exists: Garden of Shadows.
