Who Is Adam Saleh? YouTube Star Kicked Off Delta Plane For Speaking Arabic

Social media has done wonders for how we report and receive news, and the latest news has us wondering: Who is Adam Saleh?

Unfortunately, we know of him today because of an unfortunate incident that occurred on his recent Delta flight back to New York City.

According to the Sun, people who didn’t know the name Adam Saleh before today certainly know it now, after he was kicked off of a Delta plane for reportedly speaking Arabic to his mother and a friend of his. Saleh, whose parents are from Yemen, was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York.

On December 21, Saleh, his mother, and a friend were on a flight from London’s Heathrow Airport back to the United States when a Delta Airlines employee escorted the YouTube personality off the plane. Saleh recorded a live Twitter video of the incident, which has been retweeted 80,000 in just two hours.

In the video, Saleh is seen becoming upset at the employee who is escorting him off the plane.

“I cannot believe my eyes. I spoke a word and you said you feel uncomfortable. Why are you guys doing that? Just because I spoke a different language?”

Almost immediately, according to Fusion, Twitter exploded with an outcry against Delta and a show of support for Adam Saleh, who later tweeted that he was on a different flight and appreciated the support.

Fusion reports that this is not the first time airlines have shown increased discrimination against Muslims and Arabic speakers. The incident with Adam Saleh, said Fusion, was just the latest in a long line of incidents that have increased with frequency since August. Moreover, Fusion reports that airlines can now kick off any passenger without providing any reason and receive little repercussion.

And although some people questioned the validity of the claims made by Adam Saleh because of who he is, according to CBS News, this incident with Delta Airlines does not appear to be a hoax.

A few hours after the incident happened, and under increased pressure from the onslaught of social media, Delta Airlines took to Twitter to release the following statement.

“Two customers were removed from this flight and later rebooked after a disturbance in the cabin resulted in more than 20 customers expressing their discomfort. We’re conducting a full review to understand what transpired. We are taking allegations of discrimination very seriously; our culture requires treating others with respect.”

Adam Saleh is a YouTube star whose videos on his channel, True Story ASA, have gone viral. With over 1.5 million followers on Twitter and more than 5 million Vine loops, Saleh identifies himself as a “professional idiot” whose videos, in the past, have caused controversy because they are often later revealed to be a hoax.
