Margot Robbie Married: What Do We Know About Husband Tom Ackerley?
A comment on Twitter nicely summed up the news about Margot Robbie getting married: She broke every man’s heart, and every woman breathed a sigh of relief. Now, the news that Margot Robbie married her longtime boyfriend, Tom Ackerley, has people wondering: Who is he? What do we know about him?
With this in mind, here are some of the things you need to know about the man who stole the heart of someone who is, arguably, the sexiest woman alive.
1. She made the announcement of their marriage on Instagram.
As celebrities are wont to do these days, word of the couple’s marriage first came about on social media — and, more specifically, Instagram. According to People Magazine, Margot Robbie married Tom Ackerley this past weekend in Byron Bay, Australia, and posted pictures of their nuptials on Instagram.
The first photo was titled “The Calm Before The Summer Storm” (remember, seasons are reversed in the Southern hemisphere).
And though Robbie’s reps didn’t respond to People’s request for a comment and/or confirmation of her nuptials, she later posted the following picture on Instagram to confirm that she was, in fact, spoken for.
2. They’ve been together for about three years.
Even though Margot Robbie got married without making an announcement of an engagement, Elle reports that Tom Ackerley has been in her life for many years. The British director first met the Australian actress back in 2013, when they were working on the set of the film Suite Francaise.
Moreover, the duo have been living together in London since nearly the entire time they’ve been together. But there’s a catch: They’ve been sharing their London house with four other people!
Maybe they’re saving money to buy a home of their own?
3. Tom Ackerley also shared some photos of the wedding on Instagram.
Although not as many people knew who he was prior to this, when Margot Robbie married Tom Ackerley, he also shared photos of the nuptials on his Instagram page, according to the Daily Mail.
Those posts prompted a series of “shippers” of Jargot — that is, fans of Suicide Squad who want to see Jared Leto and Margot Robbie together in real life, as opposed to just having their on-screen characters in a relationship — to leave comments on his page.
“Margot and Jared look better together!” wrote one angry shipper.
“Jargot are the best! Margot and Jared!” wrote another.
When the shipping got out of control, it prompted another barrage of angry fans telling the shippers to respect the boundaries and to understand that Margot Robbie is a married woman now.
“Nobody gives a flying f–k what you all ‘ship.’ Margot is happy with Tom. Bottom line. Stop p—ing yourselves because your fangirl a–es are shipping a couple that will NEVER F–KING HAPPEN.”
No wonder Margot kept her dating life such a secret up until now!
4. The guests were kept in the dark until the last minute.
The couple had about 50 or so guests at their wedding, but according to the Daily Mail, not one of the guests were aware of what was going on until they actually got to the venue. In fact, all of the guests were given different places to meet, and a bus then went around picking everyone up and dropping them off at the designated wedding venue, which was on a private estate in Coorabell, one of the wealthiest towns in Byron Bay.
