Texas Mother Shanna Vandewege And 3-Month-Old Baby Found Dead In Beds With Throats Slit, Still No Suspect Named Or Ruled Out

On December 15, Texas mother Shanna Vandewege and her 3-month-old son were tragically found murdered in their Fort Worth home. The pair were discovered in their beds with their throats slit in similar manners, and it was the cuts to their throats that ended their lives according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. The crime took place in a quiet Texas neighborhood, with 36-year-old murdered mother Shanna Vandewege and her family reportedly living adjacent to a school bus stop.

So far, no suspects have been named and nobody has been ruled out as a potential suspect in the brutal and tragic slayings, a fact that has neighbors of the victims on edge and worried for their own safety.

As the Star-Telegram reported, Texas mother Shanna Vandewege and her husband Craig had moved to Texas from Colorado earlier this year, while Shanna was still expecting. Little Diederick was born shortly thereafter.

It is reported that Fort Worth police were first alerted to the murder of Shanna Vandewege and her infant son at about 9:30 p.m. on December 15. That’s when they reportedly got a call from the Sanginaw, Texas police that “a man” had arrived at his north Fort Worth home to find a woman and infant dead. This is according to Officer Daniel Segura, a Fort Worth police spokesman.

When first responders arrived on scene, they would discover the remains of Texas mother Shanna Vandewege and her tiny son, both with their throats cut.

It has been reported that Craig Vandewege has already been interviewed by Fort Worth, Texas police and “is cooperating” with the investigation into the brutal slayings. Even so, a homicide supervisor claims that nobody has been ruled out as a suspect.

“At this time we have ruled no one out as a potential suspect. Also, we are not specifically looking at any one person as a suspect at this time.”

As CBS Local DFW reported, the murder of Texas mother Shanna Vandewege and her innocent, helpless child has the local neighborhood incredibly concerned. Particularly as there still appears to be no suspect nor motive in the homicides.

One such neighbor, Teri Perez, can see the crime scene (taped of Friday) from her own home. She claims that the investigation into the murder of Shanna Vandewege was set up near her children’s bus stop, causing her to leave work early on Friday to meet her kids after school. Perez claims that she was in something of a panic as she raced home after learning that neighbor Shanna Vandewege and her baby had been murdered in their beds.

“On Friday I called them en route, and I was like, lock the doors, turn on the alarm, and don’t answer the doors at all. It’s very scary.”

Jim Brockway, another neighbor of Shanna Vandewege and her family, is concerned that the murders may have been random in nature.

“Normally on something like that they start looking at people that are familiar with the family to begin with, but I’d be more concerned if I find out that it was just random.”

While the investigation into the murders of the Texas mom and her baby is still ongoing and in its early stages, Shanna’s father has spoken out about his daughter and son-in-law to the media. Mark Riddle says that his daughter was still on maternity leave following the birth of 3-month-old Diederick at the time of the pair’s tragic murders. Prior to that, Shanna had been a registered nurse at a local Texas hospital.

Craig Vandewege, husband and father to the murder victims in the Fort Worth double homicide, is reportedly employed by Costco and had relocated his pregnant wife to Texas in the hopes of finding her and his child a “good home.”

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help pay for the funeral expenses of the slain Fort Worth mom and her baby. Anyone with any information regarding the murder of Texas mother Shanna Vandewege and her infant son is asked to contact the Fort Worth Police Department.
