Duggar Family Reveals Upcoming Reality TV Plans, Including Who’s Back On-Screen

There have been a few revelations about what can be expected when the Duggar family returns to television in January. This time around, while Jim Bob Duggar’s children will debut a third full season of Counting On, their cousin, Amy Duggar King, and her husband, Dillon, will also hit the reality circuit.

However, Amy’s second reality show credit won’t be on her family’s show. Instead, she and her husband plan to appear on Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars. However, if she hoped for this to launch a television career, or endear her to audiences, the former Duggar may be in for a disappointment.

When the sneak peek was released, Duggar fans flocked to Amy’s social media pages to tell her she should leave her husband and that airing family problems on reality TV was a bad idea. The backlash was severe enough that Amy felt the need to go on multiple forms of social media to tell her followers that Dillon isn’t abusing her, and that the story she told in the preview clip is not about him.

In the Facebook video, Amy Duggar King declares that she is sick of hearing negative things about her husband, and that it’s really bothering her to see some of the responses. By definition, seeking marriage counseling, even on reality TV, will mean airing some marital problems — which, in this case, will be brought to a public audience, rather than a private counselor. Moreover, reality TV sells drama, which means that of the entirety of what the Duggar cousin said during her time filming the show, the parts that will be aired are likely to be those the producers expect to receive the most feedback, make the most drama, drop the most jaws.

There’s a better-than-fair chance that viewers will be telling Amy what they think about her marriage and family plans, and that plenty of it will be unflattering.

Meanwhile, the Duggar Family Blog has released information on what the rest of the Duggar family will be doing when their reality show returns, also in January. Jinger Duggar’s marriage to Jeremy Vuolo remains front and center: a two-hour wedding special is slated to air mid-season, after at least one episode devoted to planning the fourth televised Duggar wedding.

This reflects very much what TLC has previously released about Season 3: in the promo for the show, viewers were promised “the entire journey to Jinger’s wedding,” as well as Joy Duggar’s courtship.

The teaser also hinted that Jessa Duggar Seewald might be expanding her family even faster, birthing twins rather than a single baby. However, Jessa might have goofed. In the promo, released in November, she hinted at twins.

“We don’t know if it’s twins or just one.”

Jill Duggar Dillard even steps in to hint that two heartbeats have been heard. However, on December 8, Jessa released an ultrasound image on her Instagram — one she said was 12-weeks-old, indicating it was taken mid-September.

It certainly looks like the Duggar family had seen the ultrasound images, and presumably knew Jessa is pregnant with only one child, well before November.

What remains to be seen? Well, Josh Duggar was glimpsed by many attentive viewers during Jinger’s wedding episode. Viewers have long wondered if the Duggar family would gradually slip Josh back in, after his accounts on an extramarital dating site and police reports detailing sexual abuse of his sisters became public knowledge.

Speculation is rife that perhaps a peek of a sliver of Josh Duggar’s face in the wedding episode may have been a testing of the waters, with intent of bringing him back into the show more fully when the longer wedding special airs. If the Duggar family is indeed inching Josh back into the show, the public will know within a few weeks.
