Ryan Reynolds Receives Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame
Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this morning. Reynolds is the 2,596th star to be honored by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in such a manner.
The actor’s induction into the Walk of Fame was first announced in June of this year by ComicBook. Reynolds joined a group of actors being honored that included Chris Pratt, Amy Adams, Mark Ruffalo, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
The actors are members of the Walk of Fame’s “Class of 2017,” although Reynolds is the first of his class to receive his own handprint ceremony. Reynolds will also be the final celebrity of 2016 to take part in the iconic ceremony.
According to a press release by the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Reynolds’ ceremony occurs today in Los Angeles on Hollywood Boulevard at 11:30 a.m. PST and will be emceed by comedian Anna Faris. For those who cannot attend Reynolds’ handprint ceremony, the Walk of Fame website will host a livestream here for all to watch.
In the press release, the Walk of Fame spokesperson Ana Martinez praised Reynolds’ versatility, charisma, and the diversity of his body of work. Reynolds has starred in a variety of drama and thriller films, but he is most known for his work in superhero films like Green Lantern, Deadpool, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine as well as romantic comedies like the 2009 film The Proposal.
“Since Ryan Reynolds was selected to be honored with a Walk of Fame star, fans from around the world have always been asking when Ryan Reynolds is getting his star… Well, now is the time and we invite all to enjoy the last ceremony of the year on December 15!”
Reynolds’ role in The Proposal made him a national household name and led to him being named People’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2010. Reynolds was also named the Sexiest Dad Alive (an unofficial but flattering honor) by Peopleearlier this year.
Although Reynolds has been a well-known and respected actor for years, having starred in films for almost two decades, 2016 has been a banner year for the actor.
In February, the release of Deadpool turned Reynolds into a bona fide superstar. The film shattered box office expectations and broke records for biggest February opening weekend box office and biggest R-rated opening weekend box office. According to Box Office Mojo, Deadpoolmade over $780 million worldwide against a production budget of less than $60 million, and the film had an opening weekend of $152 million. The Reynolds vehicle was also the fifth highest-grossing film of the year in the United States and the highest-grossing X-Men film of all time.
In addition to financial success, Reynolds and Deadpool also received critical accolades this year. Earlier this week, Entertainment Weekly reported that Ryan Reynolds had won a Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actor in a Comedy. The publication also named Reynolds as Entertainer of the Year. In April, Reynolds won MTV Movie Awards for Best Comedic Performance and Best Fight for his role in Deadpool. Reynolds also scored a Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Hissy Fit.
The Golden Globes also nominated Reynolds for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Deadpool for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. The announcement was met with surprise, as prestigious award ceremonies like the Golden Globes and the Oscars rarely dole out nominations to blockbuster superhero films.
Reynolds was a producer for Deadpool in addition to starring as the titular foul-mouthed antihero. Reynolds will also be a producer for the upcoming Deadpool 2, which will be released in 2018 and is one of the year’s most highly-anticipated films.
With such a versatile acting history and proven critical success, Ryan Reynolds’ star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is more than deserved.
