‘Supernatural’ Season 12, Episode 9: Expect To See More Mary Winchester In 2017 [Spoilers]

Supernatural will not air a new episode until the end of January 2017. Season 12, Episode 9 is titled “First Blood” and according to the latest spoilers, will feature a lot more of Mary Winchester (Samantha Smith). Since the show is on hiatus until after the holidays, not much is known. However, there are some details that have been released.

Spoilers are ahead. Do not continue reading unless you want to know what to expect when the long-running series returns to The CW network.

On the Season 11 finale of Supernatural, Amara gave a gift to the Winchester brothers. She resurrected Mary Winchester, who had been dead since Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) were young. Fans knew that Mary would appear in Season 12, but it seems she pops in and out when it was assumed she would be featured more often. For those hoping to see more of Sam and Dean Winchester’s mother, that time is coming.

According to an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Andrew Dabb confirmed that there will be more of Mary in future episodes. He also mentioned that she will have some “big stuff” coming up.

“Since Episode 3, Mary’s been on an eat, pray, love journey to reorient herself. When she comes back into our story, which she’ll come back most strongly in Episode 9, it’s going to be someone with a lot more of a sense of purpose. She’s got the lay of the land. She understands the world a little bit more. She understands her sons a little bit more. Starting in Episode 9, she becomes a much more proactive character in our world. She’s not going to be necessarily living in the bunker with Sam and Dean but she’s going to be more of a player in our show.”

Robert Singer added that fans will see a lot more of Mary Winchester in the later episodes during Season 12. He added that she will have some “big stuff” to do.

As for Supernatural Season 12, Episode 9, the synopsis has not yet been released. However, an extended promo clip was posted on YouTube. It reveals that when the show returns, Castiel (Misha Collins) and Mary will talk about how long Sam and Dean have been in custody of the Secret Service. It turns out it will be more than six weeks. It seems like Castiel is losing hope while Mary is getting more worried. However, if anyone can get Sam and Dean out of their imprisonment, it is those two.

The only questions are how will it be done and will Mary and Castiel do it on their own? Or will they be forced to get the help of someone they would rather not deal with, such as an enemy?

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, when the Supernatural midseason premiere airs, it will be in a new time slot. The CW is changing it to air one hour earlier than what fans are used to.

No reasons were given for why Mary hasn’t had more scenes in Supernatural. However, Sam, Dean, Castiel, and Crowley (Mark Sheppard) were dealing with Lucifer jumping bodies. His favorite seemed to be rocker Vince Vincente, portrayed by Rick Springfield.

What do you think of what showrunners Andrew Dabb and Robert Singer had to say about Mary Winchester appearing more often? Are you looking forward to seeing more of Samantha Smith’s character? How will Castiel and Mary save Sam and Dean Winchester? What “big stuff” will Mary be dealing with when the show returns? Fans will have to keep watching The CW series to find out.

Supernatural returns with Season 12, Episode 9, titled “First Blood” on January 26, 2017.
