Ryan Gosling Reveals Getting Punched By Harrison Ford On The Set Of ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Was ‘A Rite Of Passage’

It’s a rare thing to be manhandled by the guy whose face is synonymous with Han Solo and Indiana Jones, but that’s exactly what happened to Ryan Gosling on the set of Blade Runner 2049 when he was accidentally punched by none other than Harrison Ford.

And the plucky young thespian rather enjoyed the experience of being slapped around by an older statesman of his craft. In fact, he branded it as a “rite of passage” in an interview with GQ magazine.

Gosling and Ford were filming a fight scene of some kind for the forthcoming Blade Runner movie when the young pretender was accidentally whacked in the face by perhaps the coolest screen actor since Steve McQueen.

In Gosling’s defense, it must have been a strange experience being b**ch slapped by the pilot of the Millennium Falcon, but being as cool as a cucumber himself, he took it in stride.

Well, how you could you react in any other fashion? Especially when it was revealed what Harrison Ford did in the immediate aftermath of the fisticuffs.

“We were just doing a fight scene and, you know, it just happened. But what was funny was, when it was over, they brought ice for my face, and Harrison pushed me out of the way and stuck his fist in the ice.”

There’s cool, there’s ice cold, and then there’s using the ice brought to ease the pain of the person you just punched to get some relief for your own bruised and tender fist. It’s the kind of thing you’d expect John Wayne to do after ‘”the Duke” had just taken care of a salon full of rowdy and disrespectful cowboys.

Suitably impressed by Ford’s demeanor, Gosling asked him where he got his sense of humor from? To which a deadpan Ford replied “Sears.”

“I asked him the other day where he got his sense of humor from—was it from his mother or his father? He said, ‘Sears.’ And he didn’t have much time to shop around so he just had to grab one and get out.”

Gosling also described his co-star as “tough” when asked if the blow hurt.

“As soon as it happened, the director came up to me and said, ‘Look at it this way—you just got hit by Indiana Jones.'”

And proving that he’s not the sort of guy just to punch a man and walk away, Ford offered Gosling a glass of scotch for his troubles. With the younger Blade Runner 2049 actor joking that, “I guess he felt like he didn’t connect enough to earn a whole bottle.”

“He came by afterward with this bottle of scotch, and I thought, ‘Oh, I knew this was coming.’ And he pulled out a glass from his pocket, poured me a glass, and walked away with the rest of the bottle. So I guess he felt like he didn’t connect enough to earn a whole bottle.”

There’s not many people in this world who can punch you in the face and make you respect them at the same time, but according to Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford is definitely one of that rare breed.

“You know, they say don’t meet your heroes, but I would say the addendum to that is ‘…unless they’re Harrison Ford. Cause he’s a cool motherf**ker.'”
