‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 8: Will Damon Get Killed By Nina Dobrev’s Elena Gilbert?

The Vampire Diaries Season 8 recently showed how Damon (Ian Somerhalder) gives Sybill the gift Caroline gave to him — Elena Gilbert’s (Nina Dobrev) vervain necklace. When Damon gives her the necklace, it is shown how he misses returning the necklace to Elena in the Season 3 premiere.

Does this mean that Nina will be back in the show’s finale episode?

A lot has been said about Nina’s return in The Vampire Diaries Season 8. Fans have even speculated that the actress won’t reprise her role as Elena, rather she will be cast as Katherine to avoid screen time with ex-boyfriend Ian Somerhalder.

Apart from these speculations, many are still wondering how the showrunners are planning to end the series. Will there be an angle for its spinoff, The Originals, or will they get to see an open end at the series finale?

During Somerhalder’s conversation with Variety, he spilled some beans about the show’s ending and the fate of the characters.

The Lost actor admitted that at this moment, he is clueless about the conclusion because showrunners Kevin Willaimson and Julie Plec are keeping quiet about the upcoming episodes. However, he admitted that it would really please him if the last episode in Season 8 of The Vampire Diaries would leave Mystic Falls in peace.

“Honestly, I think the best thing for Mystic Falls would be for these guys and all of these vampires and witches to just go away. Let Elena wake up and have these boys gone and never know any of this happened. A phenomenal, go humanity thing would be where these creatures don’t win.

“We would love to see the two boys go down to the Caribbean somewhere and sit on a beach drinking some 60-year-old Caribbean rum, and as the sun comes up, just toast each other, give each other a hug, and take off their rings and throw them into the sea and let them just poof — turn into ash.

“I’ve created so much death and so much violence on this show that I think it would be such an amazing win for humanity if Damon and Stefan just went bye-bye. Let’s hope it happens.”

At the same time, if the xXx actress chooses to reprise her role, then it will surely help the network regain some of their lost ratings, but it may create some tension at the filming location.

When he was asked about Elena’s future, Ian promptly stated that according to him, the lead character has already created a lot of mayhem, and he thinks that they should die at the end.

“I don’t think these guys should have the ability to wreak havoc, kill everybody, ruin the lives of so many and then get out with a happy ending. I think the happy ending is that we got to go on this amazing ride with these two guys. They’ve lived long enough.”

The December 9 episode of The Vampire Diaries, titled “The Next Time I Hurt Somebody, It Could Be You,” showed how Stefan sacrificed his humanity and how Damon is reminded of Elena in the most emotional way. The episode also showed how Enzo and Bonni are going to Paris, and it was around the same time when both Bonnie and Caroline admit that during these tough hours, they really need Elena.

“If she were here, Damon wouldn’t be doing any of this,” Bonnie noted.

At the moment, it is still not officially confirmed whether Nina Dobrev will make her comeback in the finale episode of The Vampire Diaries to face Ian Somerhalder’s character. But episodes from Season 8 hint that sooner or later, fans will get to see her.

Do you think that The Vampire Diaries Season 8 will show Ian Somerhalder’s Damon getting killed by Nina Dobrev’s character? Wouldn’t that be a poetic ending for their characters? Sound off with your views in the comments below.
