Randy Orton On The Wyatt Family Angle: ‘It’s Given Me A New Pep In My Step’

Back in October, the popular WWE faction known as The Wyatt Family got a new member when Randy Orton turned on Kane and joined the group. It was something that no one saw coming and for good reason. On paper, Orton joining Bray Wyatt’s group doesn’t make any sense at all, but so far it’s worked out great, and it’s one of the best storylines on SmackDown.

On a recent episode of Tom Clark’s Main Event, WWE’s Apex Predator said that he was apprehensive about joining The Wyatt Family when he was first approached with the idea. But as things progressed, he got more comfortable with being a part of the group, and now he says that being a part of the faction has given him a new pep in his step.

“Keeping things new and refreshing at work, like right now I have a new pep in my step, I feel, because I’m working with guys that are fun to work with. This whole angle with The Wyatt Family, I’m really enjoying it. At first, I wasn’t quite sure, but now that we’re in the middle of it, and me and Bray and Luke are tag champs, everything’s feeling right. And I get to do what I love to do best and that’s be a heel.”

Orton then went on to talk about how, in recent years, his character and the things he was doing had gotten a bit stale because he was working with the same people over and over again. But now, he gets to work with Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper, who he has worked with in the past, much more extensively. He also gets to work with recent NXT call ups Chad Gable and Jason Jordan, who he describes as “amazing” and “smooth.”

“So each week is a little different. It’s not getting stale. Nothing against Sheamus, but it’s not working Sheamus every night for six months. It’s like, American Alpha, I’ve been working live events with those guys and Kane against Luke, me, and Bray, and they’re just amazing. They’re so smooth.”

Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton recently won the WWE Tag Team Championships by defeating Heath Slater and Rhyno at the TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs show. It marked the first time that Bray Wyatt has ever won a championship in WWE.

It was recently revealed that The Wyatt Family will defend their tag titles using what’s known as the “Freebird Rule.” It’s similar to what The New Day is doing now, where they’ll decide which two men in the trio will compete in the championship match. So, in the future, we could see Randy Orton and Luke Harper defend the titles, while Bray Wyatt is on the outside as a spectator.

Many are expecting Randy Orton to turn on The Wyatt Family at some point, which was probably WWE’s original plan. But, things are going so well for the trio that they may ditch the idea of a turn, and they may end up being a long term faction on the SmackDown roster. Also, WWE’s Tuesday night show is in desperate need of depth in their tag team division, so splitting Orton and Wyatt may not be the best idea in the world right now.

Even though Orton and Wyatt are supposed to be heels, they’re one of the most popular teams on SmackDown. In fact, they may actually be the most popular team on the brand. So, they’ll probably remain as the blue brand’s tag champs for quite some time.

There’s a chance that Orton and Wyatt could breakup before WrestleMania 33, which would lead to a match between them at the event. But, because the duo has been so successful, they may end up holding onto the tag titles, and defend them in Orlando next spring against a team like American Alpha.
