Celebrity Deaths 2016: The Deaths That Rocked The World


The year 2016 could go down in history as the year that the world lost the most celebrities with incredible talent. It has seemed that this year, some of the world’s greatest performers were somehow cursed and could not escape from 2016.

David Bowie

David Bowie died on January 10, 2016. His cause of death was due to cancer. Bowie was the first major star to die in 2016. According to the Mirror, a statue is going to built in his honor in Aylesbury, Bucks. Fans created a Kickstarter in order to raise £100,000. David Bowie will be remembered as one of the greatest musicians to ever live. His style was his own and he was always able to adapt his style to the changing world. Bowie was 69-years-old.

Alan Rickman

Alan Rickman died on January 14, 2016. He was 69-years-old. Rickman was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in August of 2015, and it was the illness that eventually took his life. Many people first experienced the great acting of Rickman as he played the bad guy in Die Hard. As Hans Gruber, he terrorized the people attending a Christmas party at the Nakatomi building. His reign of terror was over when Bruce Willis, as John McClain, caused Gruber to plunge to his death off the Nakatomi building. If you ask people “what their favorite Christmas movie is,” many will say Die Hard. Later in his career, Rickman became known for his role as Severus Snape in the Harry Potter movies. Rickman will forever be remembered as an amazing actor.

Prince

On April 21, 2016, news broke that Prince had died at his home, Paisley Park, in Minnesota. Prince’s cause of death was due to an accidental drug overdose. Prince began his music career in the mid-70s but exploded on the music scene in the 1980s. Prince had a way with lyrics and is considered a musical genius. He garnered acclaim for his movie Purple Rain, and his music is considered to be timeless by his millions of fans. Prince’s performance at Super Bowl XLI has been considered to be one of the best halftime performances in Super Bowl history. Prince was 57-years-old.

Muhammad Ali

Muhammad Ali died on June 3, 2016, and was 74-years-old. The boxing icon was fighting Parkinson’s Disease for over three decades. Ali is most famous for his boxing match against Joe Frazier which has become to be known as “The Thrilla In Manila.” The match was stopped in the 14th round and Ali was declared the winner. His second most famous fight came against George Foreman and was known as “The Rumble In The Jungle.” Ali was declared the winner of this fight when the match was stopped just before the end of the 8th round. Ali is arguably considered to be the greatest boxer in history. It has been speculated that his Parkinson’s Disease was caused by all the shots to the head that Ali took during his boxing career.

Gene Wilder

Gene Wilder died on August 29, 2016, at the age of 83. Wilder died due to complications from Alzheimer’s Disease. Depending on your age, Gene Wilder will most be remembered for his roles as Dr. Frankenstein (Frankensteen) in Young Frankenstein and Willie Wonka in Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Wilder won an Oscar for his role as Leo Bloom in The Producers.

Florence Henderson

Florence Henderson is the most recent shocking celebrity death. Henderson died on November 24, 2016, on Thanksgiving. Florence was 82-years-old and died of heart failure. Henderson is most remembered for her role as Carol Brady on The Brady Bunch. The remaining cast members of the show were all stunned when they learned of Henderson’s death. She will always be remembered as America’s mother.
