Mariah Carey And Ariana Grande Similarities, Find Out The Diva Request The Stars Have In Common

Due to their familiar sound and music style, Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande have been compared over the years. Carey may state that she doesn’t know who Grande is, but the pint-sized powerhouse vocalist has certainly made her mark on the industry, much like her seasoned competitor. Although Carey has more hits under her belt and has reached a superstar status that sets her far and above many other singer-songwriters and performers, Grande is a force to be reckoned with and the two are similar in more than just their vocal stylings.

It’s been reported by Vanity Fair that Grande and Carey share the same diva demand when attending photo shoots or film sets. The publication makes a note of this strange request, although it is one that seems fitting when it comes to these two starlets.

“Mariah Carey is not Ariana Grande, and Ariana Grande is not Mariah Carey. The fans of either will tell you so much. But is there a middle section to the Mimi-versus-Ari Venn diagram? Absolutely. There lies a particular quirk: they each have a side from which they prefer to be captured in pictures.”

Mariah’s new docu-series Mariah’s World is a reality series that gives details about the private life of the “Honey” singer. In a clip from an episode of the show, the singer told a story about how she came to be aware that she should only be captured from her right side. As a 19-year-old a “record label lady” explained why she should only be photographed from this angle. The said lady is reportedly also known for her minor character on The Sopranos.

During the clip, Carey’s makeup artist attempts to reason with the songstress to which Mariah admits that when it is well lit, she doesn’t mind her left side as much. People shares the words of the MUA during the clip, and Mariah’s response to the comments.

“Maybe you had a crappy photographer,” makeup artist Kristofer remarks as the mother of two replies, “I think I did and makeup artist. So I stuck to it because that was her job.” Adding, “[Everyone] knows about [the left side] but I don’t hate it when it’s well-lit, they just have to light it.

Mariah has reportedly “fought for” her right side ever since this advice was given to her. She even did her best to almost break her neck while on American Idol trying to make it through a short interview.

Ariana Grande also has a side and made a diva demand that let the whole world know that her best side is her left.

“Grande is one of these humans. In 2014, Giuliana Rancic of E! News recalled how the singer diva-ed out (like ‘Hulking out’ but with better eyelash extensions) on her while on the American Music Awards red carpet. Grande’s team asked the E! interviewer to switch sides so the audience would be treated to Grande’s best side, her left side. The left side does have the dimple on it,” VF notes.

Interestingly enough, research has actually been conducted to discover what side humans prefer to look at. Behavioral researchers at Wake Forest found overwhelming evidence that humans prefer to gaze at the left side of the face.

“Our results suggest that posers’ left cheeks tend to exhibit a greater intensity of emotion, which observers find more aesthetically pleasing.”

Mariah and Ariana’s preferences mean that if they are ever photographed side-by-side, the question of who stands where has an easy solution. Mariah Carey’s new series has been met with a great response and drew in 4 million viewers for the premiere episode.
