Defense of the Ancient 2 (Dota 2) has literally defined MOBA gaming (multiplayer online battle arena) and years after its birth as the legendary Dota, millions of players all over the world are still investing time, money, sweat, and tears (and maybe even blood?) into this huge title. Dota 2 has gone a long way from its creation as a community-created mod for Blizzard Entertainment’s Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos as Dota 2’s release in 2013 solidified the title as an international phenomenon in the world of gaming. In fact, just this week, we witnessed the conclusion of one of the biggest eSports events in history, the Dota 2 Boston Major 2016.

This season’s Dota 2 Boston Major is quite a groundbreaker as it is the first publisher sponsored event to not feature a double-elimination bracket, pitting 16 international teams into a single elimination bracket. Held at the Wang Theater in Boston, Massachusetts, Dota 2 Boston Major delivered quite a number of exhilarating matches and dramatic finishes.

This year, favorite team OG has again brought home the $3,000,000 prize pool after a crazy finals with Ad Finem, ESPN reports. This year’s win is OG’s third Dota 2 major, winning over Ad Finem 3-1. Ad Finem has never competed at the top levels of competitive Dota 2 before so this year’s Dota 2 Boston Major has been quite a break for the underdog team.

But the finale of Dota 2 Boston Major is not short of exciting for Dota 2 players all over the world. At the close of the Dota 2 Boston Major, Kotaku reports that Dota 2 Version 7.00 has finally been announced by PGL and Valve. This new patch for Dota 2 has been rumored for some time now and it’s great to finally hear the official word straight from the devs.

If you have been with Dota since it was just a community mod for Warcraft, you’ll remember that Dota’s last biggest update, Version 6.00, was released over a decade ago in 2005. It was Version 6.00 that brought heroes Axe, Bloodseeker, Dazzle, Earthshaker, Enchantress, Enigma, Phantom Lancer, Shadow Fiend, Tiny, and Weaver—heroes that today, we can’t imagine Dota without.

A decade later, Version 7.00 is finally coming for Dota 2 and it is anticipated to change the landscape of Dota 2 in 2017.

Valve has been very tight-lipped about Dota 2 Version 7.00 and Dota 2 players have been speculating since way back in 2014 what new features and heroes Valve will be introducing to Dota 2 come Version 7.00. But despite the lack of information about Dota 2 Version 7.00, we are certain about one thing coming in this version: new hero Monkey King.

At the International 2016, PC Games N reported that Valve is getting ready to induct Monkey King into the Dota 2 hero roster. Monkey King was first leaked six years ago before the 6.80 beta and looking at the Monkey King teaser, we can notice that the leak was pretty solid. Monkey King will more or less work like its leaked version.

We are expecting four special moves and skills from Monkey King, which include Echo Sweep, Flicker, Nimble Nimbus, and Cloud Dance. Echo Sweep is a basic nuke for Monkey King, which will deal 100-250 damage in a magic damage sweep of a radius in front of him. Flicker enables Monkey King to leave up to six illusions, which automatically attacks anyone in range. Nimble Nimbus was also one of the datamined skills of Monkey King from Dota 6.80 beta and from the trailer teaser, this skill could have been reworked to enable Monkey King to innately travel over trees without having to use active abilities—a groundbreaking first in Dota 2. Monkey King’s old ultimate was Cloud Dance but since the trailer hints the Nimble Nimbus as Monkey King’s new ultimate in Dota 2, Cloud Dance could have been reworked into an invisibility ability.

Dota 2 Version 7.00 is almost upon us and we’re counting the hours to its launch on the test client December 12, at 5pm GMT / 12pm EST / 9am PST. Stay tuned to the patch’s landing site at the Dota 2website here for full patch notes.

Are you excited as well for the Dota 2 Version 7.00 release?
