An official release date is yet to be announced. However, the studio has announced that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released in Fall 2017, according to Digital Spy. Therefore, you can expect the sequel to the 2010 western adventure sometime between September and December next year.
The short trailer is a real teaser and does not have much detail other than revealing some aspects of what to expect.

The map suggests that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be a prequel to the first game. This game will feature a more wild west and feature John Marston. The signs of a prequel include the buffaloes, which were hunted to relatively low amounts by the 1900s.
Red Dead Redemption took place in 1911.
The buffalo was almost extinct by 1900. No way you would see a herd like that around trains.

Further proof that this game is a prequel is that in the first installment one of the challenges were to kill the remaining buffalo, which were near extinction. However, the short trailers shows that they are plentiful as they run along the train tracks. The stores and horse carriage featured in the trailer are in better condition than they were in the first game, which also indicates that the game is going back in time.
The leaked map also suggest that the game is set further to the east than the first Red Dead Redemption. The press release for the game states that it takes place in America’s heartland, which could mean the Midwestern states. Based on the estimated time the sequel is set, John Marston will be in his early 20s and will not be too young to be featured as the main protagonist. It is likely that the game will feature some returning characters because it is called Red Redemption 2 rather than another name which implies that it is a continuation.
Rockstar Studios are notorious for their attention to detail. Therefore, most the the signs in the trailer are likely intentional. Dutch’s Gang is the main outlaw gang in Red Dead Redemption and will most likely be part of the new game. Fans of the game spotted Bill Williamson in the promotional poster due to his bent cowboy hat, and some speculate that one of the riders is a female due to her body composition.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will likely feature more Native Americans and a greater variety of wildlife. Due to the prequel setting, we will likely see the activities of Dutch’s Old Gang, which features Bill Williamson, Javier Escuella, John Marston and Abigail Marston and Dutch. The game will likely feature more bank robberies because that was what John and the gang where up to back in the day.
You can expect more details to the gameplay such as advanced hunting techniques, different bounties and a variety of executions. Rockstar will likely add different animations and more realistic behavior from animals and humans you interact with in the open world.
Many fans expect that swimming and climbing will be added as features your character will be able to accomplish. There were 19th century duels in America at the time. Therefore, more duels may be featured in the game and perhaps in a Multiplayer verse.
GTA V can give fans of the highly anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2 some clues as to the animation technology and the advancement in the user experience.
The last installment to this Western adventure was about six years ago and fans can expect a big boost in graphics and its overall gameplay.
Red Dead Redemption has a release date of Fall 2017 for now. More details to follow as they become available.
