WWE Rumors: Lita Gone From WWE? Former Women’s Champ Reportedly Signed To Legends Deal, But Jim Ross Says She Isn’t

Earlier reports might have claimed that she, just like Jerry “The King” Lawler, had been signed to a WWE Legends deal, with both shifting from pre-show analysis to occasional appearances. But legendary women’s wrestler Lita appears to be out of the WWE, according to a recent tweet from former WWE announcer Jim Ross.

From 2000 to 2006, Lita (a.k.a. Amy Dumas in real life) was one of WWE’s top female wrestlers, reigning as a four-time Women’s Champion. She partnered with and later feuded with another future legend, Trish Stratus. Her time with the company, however, wasn’t without its share of controversy, as she had been involved in a real-life affair with Edge despite being in a relationship with Matt Hardy at that time. Even then, she was still primarily recognized for her in-ring skill and willingness to take risks, and Lita was eventually inducted into WWE’s Hall of Fame in 2014.

Following her Hall of Fame induction right ahead of WrestleMania XXX, Lita made more WWE appearances in a non-wrestling capacity. She had taken part in the sixth season of Tough Enough as the lone female trainer, unveiled WWE’s new Women’s Championship belt as part of the company’s move away from the “Divas” branding for female competitors, and had been a regular in pre-show commentary for RAW and SmackDown Live episodes and pay-per-views.

On Tuesday, however, Pro Wrestling Sheet cited Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, saying that Jerry Lawler and Lita had been pulled from WWE’s pre-show announce team and signed to new WWE Legends contracts. Both Lita and Lawler were not included in the pre-show panel for Sunday’s TLC pay-per-view, as UPI had noted, and neither Hall of Famer was present for this week’s Monday Night RAW pre-show. WWE then issued a statement to The Wrap confirming that Lawler would remain with the company.

“Jerry Lawler has a Legends agreement with WWE, however, he will no longer regularly appear on our pre-shows. He will continue to host special events, including WWE’s annual Hall of Fame celebration at WrestleMania.”

But what about Lita, and what’s her status in WWE now that she won’t be appearing on pre-shows? Pro Wrestling Sheet cited a tweet from Jim Ross suggesting that the 41-year-old former Women’s Champion is no longer connected with WWE despite the Wrestling Observer‘s claim that she and Lawler have WWE Legends contracts. Ross described the reports on Lita’s WWE Legends deal as “erroneous,” and he cited the woman herself, saying that she’s “no longer with the company” without elaborating any further.

Still, Pro Wrestling Sheet left out some hope for Lita’s fans, suggesting that she might return in the future and does have a Legends contract, per one of the publication’s sources.

“One source, however, tells us both are still under Legends deals and could be brought back on occasion.”

Since Jim Ross’ tweet on Wednesday morning, he hasn’t spoken further on the issue of Lita’s WWE status, nor has Lita made any statements about the matter. Her recent Twitter activity has her advertising an appearance at the Steel City Con comic book convention in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, which takes place this weekend. And WWE has not released a statement on its website confirming Lita’s rumored departure from the company, as it normally does when one of its performers leaves the company for one reason or another.

Have Lita and WWE really parted ways, with the latter wishing the former the best in her future endeavors? Again, nothing is official, and there hasn’t been any further report on the situation, but there seems to be something behind WWE’s decision to pull her and Jerry Lawler off the pre-shows.
