Adam Sandler Signs Up For Western Comedy ‘Ridiculous 6’

Adam Sandler has had a string of duds lately. Hotel Transylvania notwithstanding, That’s My Boy and Jack and Jill were heavily panned flops, and though Grown Ups 2 looks promising, most of us can agree that it’d be nice if Sandler would make a good movie again.

Enter the western comedy Ridiculous 6. The HitList reports that Sandler will make the western comedy for Paramount, after the project floundered in development hell at Sony. The film is set to shoot in April of 2013.

Plot details are minimal and have not yet been officially confirmed, but ComingSoon predicts that given the title and the genre, the film is most likely a parody of John Sturges’ classic western The Magnificent Seven, which was itself based on Akira Kurosawa’s SevenSamurai.

The 60s western is also in the chute for a remake with Tom Cruise reportedly attached.

As suggested above, Sandler’s latest outings have tanked, though his ensemble films like Grown Ups have been good to him. Ridiculous 6 will likely be the latter, and we can only imagine that the five actors rounding out Sandler’s posse will be Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Henry Winkler and/or Andy Samberg. Heck, maybe even Dave Matthews will make the cut.

What do you think? Should Sandler’s new western comedy Ridiculous 6 use his frequent collaborators, or would he be better off looking for new comedic actors? One thing he’s definitely good at is celebrity cameos, so we can only imagine what western icons he can bring in for this.
