Prince Harry Comes Under Scrutiny For Romantic Canada Detour To Visit Girlfriend Meghan Markle

Prince Harry made quite the detour in order to see his girlfriend after his official tour of the Caribbean. The royal flew 1,700 miles out of his way to stop in Toronto, Canada in order to spend a few days with actress Meghan Markle.

Markle is currently in Canada filming for the series Suits as the Prince stopped by for a quick visit. She was reportedly all smiles following the short weekend with Prince Harry, according to Daily Mail. The couple is said to have spent two evenings together at Markle’s apartment before the royal was seen heading to the airport on Tuesday. Daily Mail also stated Prince Harry will reimburse London for the cost of the flights as he mixed business with pleasure.

He was set to fly straight to London from the Caribbean, where he was on official business. The Prince carried out a two-week visit to seven different countries in the Caribbean on behalf of the queen, and a trip to Canada was not originally in the plans. The Daily Beast reports the unexpected stop has drawn criticism from the British press as Harry’s detour breaks the rules set to prohibit royals from mixing business with pleasure.

“The newspapers are fuming, outwardly alleging that Harry has seen fit to play fast and loose with rules established in the wake of Prince Andrew’s various tax-payer funded outrages, which explicitly prohibits royals from mixing business and pleasure trips.”

According to the article, protocol was put in place in 2004 to avoid mixing public engagements with private ones during the same trip. In fact, the Telegraph stated Prince Harry “breached royal protocol” with his detour to Canada instead of flying straight to London, and his team even lied to reporters about his flight plan. The article states Kensington Palace explicitly said the Prince would be flying straight to London after the trip, and reporters are not happy with the alleged deception.

However, the fact that Prince ignored this royal protocol is only adding fuel to rumors he is soon going to propose. The 32-year-old Prince has been dating Markle since June and obviously can’t seem to be apart from her for long. Meghan was spotted wearing a customized necklace this week with her and the Prince’s initials. The 14-karat gold necklace has raised a few questions as the public takes it as a sign the relationship is getting more serious.

The couple also sport matching beaded bracelets, and both Prince Harry and Markle are rarely seen without the jewelry, reports People.

“Harry reportedly picked up the bracelets during one of his trips to Africa — and the gift has rarely left the actress’s wrist.”

While the Prince’s relationship with Meghan seems to heat up, Kensington Palace was forced to release a statement asking the public to respect their privacy. Markle reportedly faced a “wave of abuse and harassment” after news of the relationship went public, resulting in the statement being issued. With the new controversy surrounding the Prince’s unscheduled stop in Canada, the public seems to have unleashed newly found criticisms over the relationship.

Perhaps the Prince failed to disclose his detour to Canada in order to avoid attention and the paparazzi. Following Kensington Palace’s plea for privacy, the public shouldn’t be surprised to learn the royal didn’t want everyone knowing his plan to visit Markle. USA Today covered the fact the couple was able to dodge the paparazzi during their latest visit.

“Yet another week has gone by and still the paparazzi failed to capture the prince and the American actress he’s dating in an unambiguously clear picture together.”

While some people may be outraged over the breach in royal protocol, it seems Prince Harry may have been simply protecting his privacy by not divulging his plans.
