The ‘DuckTales’ TV Series Is Coming Back Summer 2017 – Check Out The New Teaser [Video]

If you grew up in the late 1980s or early 1990s you know all about the DuckTales TV series. A Saturday morning Disney staple, the DuckTales TV series told the story of Disney’s Scrooge McDuck (Donald Duck’s uncle) and the trouble-making triplets, Huey, Dewey, and Louie. The new DuckTales reboot is reportedly going to pick up right where the old series left off and will feature a handful of additional beloved cartoon characters that made the original series so iconic.

The first inkling that the DuckTales TV series would be making a comeback came several months ago, and the news immediately got fans of the series (many of them who are now parents themselves, parents who are stoked to share the DuckTales magic with their own kids) quickly began to salivate over the potential for awesomeness.

The newly released teaser trailer for the much-anticipated revamp of the classic series finally gave fans of the show an idea as to when they would be seeing their favorite cartoon ducks in the flesh again (so to speak) and the news is awesome. So when’s it coming? The newly-reimagined DuckTales series is now expected to be coming to the Disney XD lineup sometime during summer 2017.

As Entertainment Weekly reports, the new DuckTalesTV series has been built on the solid foundation of a beloved concept (complete with fan base) coupled with some of the best animation talents at Disney. Included among the brilliant minds that are bringing the fan-favorite series back to the small screen are familiar names from Ben 10: Omniverse (Executive producer Matt Youngberg) and Wander Over Yonder(story editor/co-producer Francisco Angones).

In all, the new DuckTales TV series has been signed on for a lengthy first season, with hopes that it will stick around much, much longer. So far, Season 1 is expected to include 21 episodes (at 30 minutes each), as well as a pair of one-hour special shows.

As Screen Rant reports, DuckTales is far from the first 1980s animated series to be breathed back to life in recent years. Some of the modern reboots, in fact, have drastically exceeded the popularity (and profitability) of their 80s TV forefathers, such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Transformers. Back in the day, DuckTales was so popular that it spawned a feature-length animated film. Now that live-action and compute animation are all the rage, who knows what could be in store for the franchise.

Everybody’s favorite DuckTales characters are reportedly coming back when the classic cartoon is born again next summer. It even appears that the show’s writers and producers are aiming for a bit more gender equality than was depicted in the past. It has been reported that Webbigail “Webby” Vanderquack (granddaughter of Mrs. Beakley, Scrooge’s iconic maid) will be returning to the series. This time around, however, she’s expected to get a lot more time than she did in the past.

Apparently, in 2017, girls get to go adventuring right along with the boys. Awesome.

Of course, Launchpad McQuack (Scrooge’s pilot and adventurer extraordinaire) is slated to reprise his role in the new DuckTales. So will the rest of “the help,” including Mrs. Beakley and Duckworth, Scrooge’s valet/butler.

In addition to the key characters from the 1980s series, fans of DuckTales can expect to see a lot of the former “bit players” coming back to join the crew next summer. Some familiar faces to watch for include Glomgold, the Beagle Boys (nemesis’ to the DuckTales team), and Magica DeSpell, who has become something of an icon to the LGBTQ community in recent years.

The animation style of the rebooted DuckTales series is getting an upgrade and fast-forwarding into the digital age. However, the look of the new Disney XD series is expected to stay true to the original cartoon, something that should please even the most die-hard fans of the original. In fact, if you’re among the die-hard fans of the original, now’s the time to get that song (everyone knows the song) stuck in your head (and maybe pass it down to your kids).

What do you think? Are you excited for the new DuckTales TV series, or do you think that Disney should have left this one to the realms of nostalgia?
