Brad Pitt: Is Tabloid Gossip Hurting Performance At Box Office For ‘Allied’? Judge Denies Actor’s Request For Court Documents To Be Made Private

It seems that oftentimes, stars want to be talked about and be in the headlines when they are busily promoting a new film or latest album in order to bring more attention to the project. However, when it comes to gossip that is circulating about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, headlines are apparently having a negative effect on the Allied star.

Over Thanksgiving weekend, Allied came out- a World War II espionage thriller with a romantic twist that stars Brad Pitt along with Marion Cotillard. Since its opening weekend, the box office gross profit for the film have been simply OK, as Variety notes. Yet the breakup between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, his partner of 10 years and wife of 2, has been the drama that everyone is more interested in watching, it seems.

Unfortunately, the question being raised, due to the obvious mediocre results at the box office, is whether the divorce filed by Angelina that resulted after allegations of possible abuse and intoxication on Brad’s part, have hurt Pitt’s chances to be taken seriously in a romantic role. If the tabloid gossip and latest news about the custody battle regarding the former A-list couple have not actually kept people from heading to buy a ticket for Pitt’s latest film, it’s a sure fact that when viewing the latest film, the audience members will find it tough not to allow thoughts to wander and be reminded of the rumors and heartbreaking fallout experienced between Brad and Angelina.

Owen Gleiberman of Variety poses the question of the moment perfectly in regard to the impact the gossip surrounding Pitt is likely having on the audience response to Allied.

“Pitt is a superb actor (one of my favorites, in fact), but the question for audiences is whether they can completely give themselves over to experiencing him in a role that is now competing with the role of his life.”

It seems that Brad Pitt has become frustrated with the ongoing gossip and details about divorce and custody proceedings being made public knowledge seeing as he recently requested an emergency hearing to have any divorce documents sealed, which would allow any information about the ongoing custody battle over the six children Brad and Angelina share be made known.

A source spoke with People on the subject and stated that the request by Pitt is in the best interest of his family and that he has not agreed with how Jolie has handled the divorce with the media.

“Angelina has consistently made public statements and public filings throughout this process. He has not. All he is saying—and any therapist would agree here—is that he wants to do what is in the best interests of his children, and his entire family, including her, frankly. And that is to keep this private. It is inconceivable why anyone would argue against this being private. What is the argument for having it public? Why would you want any details about this incredibly difficult time to be broadcast to the whole world?”

However, another source insists that Jolie has stressed that the family’s privacy, even Pitt’s, is a priority.

“Of course Angelina does want to keep things private. That’s why details of what really happened on the plane have not been made public.”

The hearing regarding the sealing of the documents was held on Wednesday, and the judge ruled against Pitt’s request. The publication notes that although Jolie was not opposed to sealing documents for privacy sake, she was opposed to the request by Pitt’s team at the time because his legal team failed to consult hers. The judge ruled against the request because the case did not meet the requirements to seal the documents.
