‘MechWarrior Online’ Goes Into Open Beta October 29

Piranha Games’ MechWarrior Online has been in closed beta for some time now, but now it’s almost time for the general public to get their hands on the free-to-play mech sim.

Over the weekend, Piranha announced that MechWarrior Online will enter into open beta on October 29. In case you haven’t been keeping up with time lately, that’s this coming Tuesday.

MechWarrior Online was originally supposed to go into open beta earlier on in the month, but the developers decided to push back the release due to concerns from closed beta testers that the game wasn’t yet stable enough to be shown to the general public.

“We have decided to push Open Beta back. We agree that the game’s current state of stability is not allowing us to get the latest experience across to new and veteran players alike,” MechWarrior Online lead designer Paul Inouye wrote on the game’s forums.

Even though the game hasn’t even gone into open beta yet, MechWarrior Online has already managed to rake in $5 million through the Founders program, which gave players immediate entry into the closed beta along with a selection of “Founders” mechs, depending on which tier you went with.

“The success of the Founder’s Program reinforces IGP’s vision to help independent developers build exceptional games with the right economic model for the global marketplace,” Infinite Game Publishing CEO Nick Foster said. “We are in a unique position to be able to deliver a pipeline of high quality, innovative content for online game players.”
