Erin Brockovich To Divorce As Husband Files Papers In California

Erin Brockovich is headed for divorce.

TMZ reported that her husband of 13 years filed documents in LA County Superior Court this week. Erin Brockovich married husband Eric in 1999, and the couple have no minor children together, the report notes. No date of separation was listed in the divorce filing.

The Erin Brockovich divorce filing showed that Eric is seeking spousal support, and is requesting that he not have to pay any money to his wife.

Erin Brockovich shot to fame in 2000 when an eponymous film came out starring Julia Roberts. The movie highlighted Brockovich’s tenacious fight to protect a town threatened by industrial waste.

Brockovich became an essential part of the investigation and case against Pacific Gas Electric energy company in California in 1993 after the company allegedly tried to hide evidence of mass chemical contamination in a neighboring town. Brockovich helped win the case against the company, which led to a $333 million settlement.

Recently the town was in the news again, ABC News noted. Residents there were given a deadline by the Pacific Gas Electric Company to either sell their properties to the company or accept a water treatment system provided installed in their house for free.

Since her initial case and the ensuing attention from the movie, Erin Brockovich has continued to advocate for environmental issues. Earlier this year she traveled to an Upstate New York town where it was believed a chemical spill was leading to a mysterious illness in high school students.

This is now the third divorce for Erin Brockovich, who was married twice before.
