Ashley Graham Dreams Of Being A Plus-Size Victoria’s Secret Model As She Shares Telling Instagram Post

Plus-size model Ashley Graham is hoping to see a new side of Victoria’s Secret following the brand’s annual fashion show. The 28-year-old took to Instagram on Monday to share her version of a Victoria’s Secret angel. Graham rocks lingerie in the artist rendition that’s complete with a pair of wings. The illustration includes the caption “Victoria’s Secret Plus!” just in case the message isn’t clear.

Graham, an advocate for body acceptance, seems to have her sights set on being a plus-size model for the popular brand. Yahoo Style took the Instagram post as an acknowledgment of Graham wanting to see more body diversity on the Victoria’s Secret runway.

Fans of Graham left comments on the photo supporting the idea of plus-size angels.

“How I wish they have plus sizes… #makeithappen#victoriassecret#plussizeangels”

It seems Ashley isn’t the only one who feels it’s time the lingerie brand worked to include more body types as fans continued to show their support.

“Omg I was just thinking they should do something like this!”

And it wouldn’t be surprising to see Graham as the first plus-size model to walk for Victoria’s Secret as she already has some similar accomplishments to her name. She is the first plus-size model to appear on Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition cover. Last year, Graham made headlines as the first plus-sized model used in an ad in the magazine. You see, she’s no stranger to breaking molds in the industry.

Since her career catapulted, Graham has seen major success in modeling and advocacy. Her Instagram following is up to almost three million, while she was recently honored by Mattel with a personalized Barbie doll at the Glamour Women Of The Year summit.

While Ashley receives applause for her strides towards body acceptance, Victoria’s Secret has been making news with its annual fashion show taking place last week. It’s no secret that none of the VS models fall into the plus-size category as they parade giant wings, and bra and panty sets down the runway. Cosmopolitan referred to the show as reinforcing unrealistic body standards as models with “little-to-no body fat” trotted down the runway.

Comments on Victoria’s Secret’s Instagram show both users frustrations and lusts over the thin models. With comments such as “ugh Barbie” and “they make me die every year,” Instagram users expressed their opinions. Fans shouldn’t be surprised to learn a model such as Graham is striding for more inclusivity in the famed fashion show.

Models such as Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner turned heads on the runway this year, but at a size two, both girls are much thinner than the average woman. Graham, a size 16, is more in line with representing the average woman, according to Today. In fact, Allure states Victoria’s Secret is in a prime position to help define body-positivity for women of all sizes.

“As a lingerie brand, Victoria’s Secret effectively define what it means to be ‘sexy.'”

Thus, including a wider range of sizes in its shows, Victoria’s Secret can work to promote body acceptance along with Graham.

“But by celebrating plus-size models like Graham, the lingerie brand could have a real impact on how both the fashion industry and society at large views curves, making body diversity both accepted and expected.”

While Allure makes valid points, comedian Nicole Arbour addressed the opposite side of this argument in a Facebook live post. Nicole says “curvy” girls should just appreciate the VS fashion show for what it is and not body shame the models for being thin. She doesn’t suggest the brand should include curvier girls, but instead, says “curvy” girls should be “chill” about the fact plus-sizes aren’t included.

It seems everyone has an opinion on the Victoria’s Secret models, and fans will be eagerly watching to see if next year’s show includes plus-sizes.
