WWE News: Former WWE Women’s Champion Mickie James Offered New WWE Contract

Former five-time WWE Women’s Champion Mickie James was able to excite a lot of people this year when she worked an amazing match with Asuka at WWE NXT Takeover: Toronto. She and Asuka fought for the NXT Women’s Championship, where James took Asuka to the limit. When offering her hand out to congratulate Asuka, James was met with disrespect by the Empress of Tomorrow.

The match was very good, and no one really expected it to be like that. People assumed that Mickie James would do okay, but no one thought she would show up in amazing shape like she did and wrestle at a level higher than many of the girls are doing now. She had her first child a few years ago and has pretty much been a part-time wrestler since. Meanwhile, her husband, Nick Aldis, better known as Magnus, has been relatively full-time.

With her impressive performance, many wondered if Mickie would be offered a deal to return to the company. According to Pro Wrestling Sheet, Mickie James was, in fact, offered a new deal with WWE to return to the company. The website reports that she has remained in contact with WWE since her big return at WWE NXT Takeover: Toronto during WWE Survivor Series weekend in November.

Triple H praised Mickie and Asuka for their match after the event was over, and the thought was that he would work to get her back into the company whenever possible. The length of her new deal is unknown at this point, and it is also not known whether she’ll go to WWE RAW or SmackDown Live. However, many would assume RAW would be the best destination for the former champion.

The reason for this is pretty simple. WWE needs more girls on RAW with the issues going on in depth there. Both Paige and Summer Rae are out due to injury, and neither Nia Jax nor Dana Brooke is ready to be at the top of the female card right now. Emma has yet to return at this point, but she would only be a small help to the roster in need of more depth for women.

Bayley is being left out of the major women’s storylines because WWE is waiting for WrestleMania time to give her the big win everyone wants to see. The thought is that she will face new champ Sasha Banks but no one knows if WWE will continue to flip-flop the WWE Women’s Title or not at this point. Adding Mickie James to all of this automatically means she’ll be added to the title scene due to her stature as a five-time WWE Women’s Champion.

She would be a huge help to a roster that has been pretty much two women and a title for the last six months due to issues with injuries and future storylines, combined with women who are simply not ready for the spot they were given. Mickie James returning would be helpful in spot-filling but also for teaching, as she could be a valuable teacher to the girls of WWE due to her vast experience.

It could be that WWE may have Mickie James compete on the main roster now, but she could eventually find herself in the WWE Performance Center as the girl who trains all the women. With Sara Del Rey working with the main roster more often, it seems like transitioning into this role would be a good place for James to be as she heads toward the end of her career. However, if she remains working at a high level like she did with Asuka, we may see James for years to come on television.
