‘The Walking Dead’ News: Chandler Riggs Answers Questions About College Affecting Show

A few weeks back, Walking Dead actor Chandler Riggs posted that he had been accepted to Auburn for college. His father then posted a social media picture that said Riggs’ contract with The Walking Dead had come to an end and used the hashtag #freedom. This led to speculation on whether Chandler Riggs was leaving the show and what that meant for Carl.

This weekend, Carl was a huge part of the episode. It was exactly what fans of the Walking Dead comic had been waiting for as Negan and Carl finally had their heart-to-heart discussion, which was a huge turning point for both characters in the comic books.

The Hollywood Reporter spoke to Chandler Riggs about that episode and then brought up the rumors that he might be leaving The Walking Dead for college. While Riggs was didn’t reveal much, he did make it sound like he wants to remain on The Walking Dead.

“You never know how it will go. I really do hope it works out because that would be really cool. I like to be in The Walking Dead and I like to play video games and just hang out with my friends and try to be as normal as possible so going to college would be another really cool, normal experience in my life. I want for it to work out.”

However, Chandler Riggs also said that it is not something that is going to be easy. He said that it will be up to his professors at Auburn. According to the actor, he would only be able to take one or two classes on campus and an online class. The professors would then have to cooperate with this schedule.

If they don’t, then Chandler Riggs would have to choose between The Walking Dead and college. It also might come down to money. Chandler Riggs wants to go to college, and getting an education would help in case the acting jobs disappear as he gets older.

While the Inquisitr reported that his father said that his son’s Walking Dead contract came to an end after the Season 7 season, that doesn’t mean that he can’t sign a new one. Right now, all Chandler Riggs would admit to is that he is working towards the deal where he could do both.

The problem came when the reporter asked if Chandler Riggs had a contract for The Walking Dead Season 8, and his only answer was that he couldn’t answer that question. That makes it sound like the fate of Carl might be up in the air, and he either will leave after the season or he will return. It does seem like if Chandler Riggs goes, then the character of Carl will also depart the show.
