Nsyncer Chris Kirkpatrick Engaged In Italy

When ‘NSync member Justin Timberlake got married to Jessica Biel without his band mates it raised a question to fans of the 90s boy band. What was more interesting was that oldest and founding member Kirkpatrick was reported to be seen around Italy during the ceremony even though he didn’t attend. Now it looks like we know exactly what he was up to! Chris Kirkpatrick was making his own life commitment and proposed in Italy over his birthday weekend.

At the time Kirkpatrick, 41, didn’t plan on popping the question to two-year love, marketing rep Karly Skladany. However, that all changed once he got to the Isle of Capri says Kirkpatrick. “We had a hotel room at the Isle of Capri, overlooking the Mediterranean,” he says. “It was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. And it hit me: I wanted to propose to Karly. So I ran to a jewelry store, found the perfect ring and bought it.”

The ring is said to have an oval-cut diamond and is surrounded by a few smaller diamonds set by a white gold band. Before proposing Kirkpatrick told PEOPLE there was one last step before making it official. The former Nsync singer called his bride-to-be’s father for permission. “He didn’t answer his phone, so I left him this message like, ‘Um, this is Chris, and I just wanted to talk and ask a few questions.’ I was nervous, which was funny. He called right back and, of course, he gave his blessing.”

When the moment came for Kirkpatrick to propose the singer said it was a romantic moment. “We were sitting on the balcony with a bottle of champagne and I put the ring in her glass,” he says with a laugh. “I know it sounds cheesy, but it was romantic. As soon as I asked her, she said, ‘It’s about time!’ And we laughed. It was spur of the moment, but it was absolutely perfect.”

However, the question still remains, with no one from the boy band invited to Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel’s weddin, is there any hard feelings? According to Chris he was completely fine with watching from afar with the rest of the world. “He didn’t want the wedding to be an ‘NSync reunion, and I totally understand that,” says Kirkpatrick. “I already had plans to be in Italy anyway. It was just a coincidence that I was there when Justin got married. There’s really nothing negative about any of it.”
