WWE News: John Cena Gets Return Match Against AJ Styles And Dean Ambrose, New Lead Movie Role

In the latest WWE news and rumors, professional wrestler John Cena hasn’t been seen on SmackDown Live for some time now. He’s not scheduled for Sunday’s big TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view, but Cena will make his return soon enough. Recent advertisements have shown when fans can expect to see the multiple-time champion back in the ring, and it looks like he’ll be part of an exciting triple threat match once he returns. In addition, Cena has landed another new movie role, which has been part of why he’s been away from the wrestling ring.

In a recent report by the Inquisitr, there were WWE rumors about Cena winning the Royal Rumble match in January. That is still a possibility, although there has been some recent speculation that the winner of the Rumble won’t be from the SmackDown roster. A lot of it depends on whether or not the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view before WrestleMania is branded as a SmackDown or Raw event. If it is a blue brand event, then it could be where the title picture is determined, and that could mean that the Chamber match itself is to determine a No. 1 contender for AJ Styles’ title. The speculation for a while has been that Cena will challenge Styles at the big pay-per-view to win his record-tying 16th championship.

While Cena is a favorite to win the 30-man match, he ranks behind Goldberg and Finn Balor. It also doesn’t look like it will be a big surprise return to the Rumble match for Cena if he actually participates. He’s already being advertised for a return match against AJ Styles and Dean Ambrose in December, according to Wrestling Inc. The match is scheduled for December 26, 2016, at Madison Square Garden for a WWE live event. It’s also been reported that Styles and Ambrose will continue to work their program at least through that date.

Cena has basically been missing in action since losing a Triple Threat against AJ Styles and Dean Ambrose at No Mercy 2016 for Styles’ World Heavyweight title. That was back in early October, and Cena’s disappearance wasn’t exactly explained by WWE after the loss, but he’s been filming for the American Grit TV series. In the last match he participated in, Cena was pinned by Styles, who has several victories over him now. That has led to the speculation that the two will be competing for the title at WrestleMania 33 with Cena finally able to defeat his latest rival. There have also been those lingering rumors that it will be John Cena facing The Undertaker at Mania in what is the final match for “The Deadman.” So it will all come down to who is holding that WWE World Heavyweight belt, as most likely Cena is going to be in the title picture.

In other John Cena WWE news, he’s still going the way of Hollywood, similar to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. According to Wrestling News Source, Cena has landed a new movie role. While Cena has been more of a cameo appearance or supporting character with lesser roles, it looks like he’ll have a lead role in the upcoming movie The Pact. Reportedly, this latest film will be about three daughter’s who made a pact to lose their virginity on prom night. The comedy will follow the antics as the girls’ parents try to interfere in their plans. The new movie also stars Leslie Mann and Ike Barinholtz.

Cena has been part of other films, including the hit, Trainwreck, with comedian Amy Schumer, as well as Daddy’s Home starring Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell. Based on the way the reports are talking about this film, he’s received a bigger role in a project that doesn’t necessarily involve WWE Studios. So he could very well be looking to capture that huge championship win at WrestleMania before following in the Rock’s footsteps in Hollywood.

WWE fans, do you think John Cena will win the Royal Rumble? Also, how do you feel about Cena coming back into the Triple Threat match with Styles and Ambrose? Is the feud getting stale? Who would you have Cena face in the upcoming WrestleMania 33?
