It’s Over! ‘Vanderpump Rules’ Star Scheana Shay Files For Divorce From Mike Shay

Scheana Marie Shay is officially done with Mike Shay. The Vanderpump Rules stars just announced their divorce after two years of marriage. Fortunately, it sounds like the breakup was amicable, and the former couple plans to remain good friends.

According to Hollywood Life, Scheana and Shay exchanged vows two years ago on the set of Vanderpump Rules. They tried their best to make things work but ultimately decided a divorce was better than staying together.

“While we have made the difficult decision to move forward separately, our story will continue on through the love and mutual respect that we have cultivated throughout our 15-year friendship,” the pair shared in a joint statement. “Much of the recent speculation and reporting on our relationship has been misguided, and we have come to an amicable decision on all matters.”

TMZ reports that the divorce did not surprise many fans of the show. Rumors of a possible split first surfaced after Shay went missing for almost an entire week. Scheana Marie claimed that he left and cleared out the money in their bank account, while rumors swirled that Shay had fallen off the wagon.

Shay has battled drug and alcohol abuse over the years, though he appeared to have gotten his life back on track this past year. Indeed, Shay started on his path to sobriety in January. Despite all the negative rumors, Shay insists he has been sober since the beginning of the year.

People reports that fractures in Scheana’s marriage first appeared back in November of 2015. During a conversation with Lisa Vanderpump, she admitted that her marriage wasn’t going as expected, which wasn’t a good sign given how they tied the knot in July of 2014.

“The truth is everything isn’t great. It’s not perfect,” an emotional Scheana told her boss. “And I keep trying to act like everything’s okay. It’ll get better. I just keep telling myself, ‘It’ll be okay, and it’ll get better.'”

Sadly, things never quite turned around. Although Shay got help for his addiction to painkillers, it looks like their marriage was too damaged to repair. Furthermore, there is the possibility that Shay compromised his sobriety.

Back when the reality star went missing, an inside source revealed that Shay had been struggling to stay clean for some time.

“Shay is not sober anymore as he claims and he has been struggling with his sobriety lately, which has caused concern among his friends and family,” the insider revealed.

According to Perez Hilton, Shay denies losing his sobriety and claims that he never actually went missing. He also refutes the notion that he cleared out the bank account. Instead, Shay maintains that he and the Vanderpump Rules star decided to take a break, and he was staying with family members during the alleged incident.

Although it is sad to see the couple divorce, at least fans can rest assured knowing they will remain friends.

“We might have failed at our marriage, but we are committed to succeeding as friends and will continue to support each other’s personal happiness and professional success,” the couple revealed.

Scheana took to social shortly after the announcement and thanked fans for their continued support, saying, “Thank you all for the love today! It’s never easy to split with someone you still love, but we will always remain friends.”

There’s no telling how the breakup will affect the couple’s interactions on Vanderpump Rules and whether or not the drama will play out in front of the cameras next season. Until more information is released, fans can only hope Scheana and Shay live up to their promises and remain good friends.

Fans can watch Scheana and Michael Shay’s relationship play out when new episodes of Vanderpump Rules air Monday nights on Bravo.
