So far, 2016 has been a very interesting year for Heo Young Ji. Starting on January 15, the K-pop idol suddenly found herself the sole surviving member of Kara after Gyuri, Seungyeon, and Hara decided not to re-sign with DSP Media. As a result, the veteran K-pop girl group officially disbanded after nine years. Such news would have been debilitating for Young Ji given the fact she is now on her own after only being with Kara less than two years. Thankfully, DSP Media promised to do all they could to make sure Young Ji succeeds, developing her career for the future.
Surprisingly, Heo Young Ji might have found a future in acting. Despite the fact that at the time she only had one acting credit under her name as Oh Young Ji in Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation web drama The Alchemist, Young Ji did a phenomenal job playing Yoon Ahn Na in the popular Total Variety Network (tvN) K-drama, Another Oh Hae Young. Apparently, Young Ji is somewhat similar to Ahn Na when it comes to dating. In a recent interview, Young Ji made it known she is flexible when major age differences with it comes to dating.
Heo Young Ji made her thoughts known during an interview with Kim Chang Ryul on his Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) Power FM radio show, Kim Chang Ryul’s Old School, as reported by Soompi. One of the questions Chang Ryul asked Young Ji was how big of an age gap was she willing to accept. The answer Heo Young Ji offered took Kim Chang Ryul by surprise.
“It doesn’t matter. It’s fine as long as we like each other.”
If that was not a big enough surprise, Heo Young Ji would continue to explain that it does not matter if the other person was dozens of years older than her. She also made it clear she would be fine with dating a younger person too, though it might be difficult for her. Kim Chang Ryu took the latter information to conclude that Young Ji would be alright with a 20-year-old man given that her age is 23-years-old (Korean age).
By happenstance, Heo Young Ji’s flexibility with age gaps in her relationship are similar to her character Yoon Ahn Na in Another Oh Hae Young. For those who are unfamiliar with her character in the K-drama, Ahn Na (Young Ji) is a 21-year-old woman who works part-time at a convenience store. She eventually becomes the girlfriend of Park Hoon (Heo Jung Min), the younger half-brother the main male lead character, Park Do Kyung (Eric Mun). It should be known that Park Hoon is 33-years-old meaning he is exactly a dozen years Ahn Na’s senior.
Even outside of their characters in Another Oh Hae Young, the age gap between Heo Young Ji and Heo Jung Min is close to a dozen years. As mentioned earlier, Young Ji is 23-years-old. Jung Min is just one year shy of being a dozen years older than Young Ji as he is 34-years-old. And just to iterate before any falsified rumors start to circulate, Heo Young Ji’s flexibility in dating a man who is dozens of years older than her being linked to her being comfortable working with Jung Min despite their age difference does not mean they might be in said relationship.
Wo can only take Heo Young Ji’s preferences as is though it may be surprising to see such a couple in South Korea. For those who want to support Young Ji, her last album as part of Kara, an extended play (EP) or mini-album titled In Love is still available to purchase on YesAsia. As for those who are interested in seeing Heo Young Ji act as Yoon Ahn Na, Another Oh Hae Young — also known as Another Miss Oh and Oh Hae Young Again — previously aired on tvN, but is now available to watch for free, with ads, on DramaFever, Viki, and OnDemandKorea.
