Voodoo Musical Festival Will Offer Overnight Tent Camping

Voodoo Music and Arts Experience is transporting a European-style music festival to New Orleans and will be offering overnight camping and more electronic acts.

The three-day festival starts on Friday at the New Orleans City Park. The Voodoo lineup includes Skrillex, Kaskade, and Justice. Also a number of electronic DJ producers will be performing as electronic music becomes increasingly popular in the states.

This year marks the first time tent camping will be offered at the festival, also following the European music festival trend.

Voodoo producer Stephen Rehage says camping has worked in Europe, so why not here in the states? The festival is one of few that offers tent-camping in the country. The camping efforts are starting small, with about 300 tent sites, equipped with restrooms and showers, the Associated Pressreports.

This is the 14th annual Voodoo, and the event will host nearly 100 acts with all types of genres; headliners include Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Metallica, and Jack White.

The electronic DJs have been moved to a stage in order to accommodate the overflow of festival-goers.

Rehage says the festival is meant to introduce a variety of styles, with no genre left out for audience members:

“This festival really is a musical gumbo. Every year we just throw it all in the pot, mix it up and hope it tastes good.”

The Voodoo festival is annually held around Halloween and throws in a dash of the local talent like Irma Thomas, Marcia Ball, the Lost Bayou Ramblers, and Little Freddie King, MSNreports.

Tickets for the festival start at $90 for one-day passes and $175 for three-days, with VIP, parking, and camping packages.
