Chapter 848 of immensely popular Japanese manga One Piece is brimming with a lot of promise. Mangaka Eiichiro Oda has lined up several confrontations. He has placed all the members of the Straw Hats gang on Yonko Big Mom’s Whole Cake Island, but has isolated them in pairs, except for Sanji, who appears convinced about marrying Charlotte Linlin’s daughter, Lady Pudding, owing to a few words of comfort and compassion.
Warning: One Piece manga Chapter 847 spoilers and Chapter 848 speculations ahead.
Chapter 847 of One Piece ended on a rather sad note. While Carrot was being slowly lowered into a large vat of “exquisite soup,” Chopper was securely tied with chains. Furthermore, as the Inquisitr had previously reported, his future appeared even bleaker as one of Big Mom’s henchwoman said once Carrot was in the soup, Chopper would be added to the Yonko’s ever-growing collection of strange beasts.
While Big Mom was proudly showing her collection of strange beasts that one of her daughters had kept animated and immortalized in books, she was called by one of her soldiers to meet Luffy and Nami. In the previous chapter, Sanji had ensured none of the Straw Hats members would be harmed if he agreed to wed the Yonko’s daughter. Although Big Mom appears to have kept her word, she has ensured Luffy and Nami have been secured in the prisoner library.
It appears that Luffy inadvertently handed Big Mom a very important box, which was part of King Neptune’s treasure. While the contents of the box, called “Tamatebako” remain a mystery, they are clearly very important to Charlotte Linlin, who promised Luffy she would open the box during the upcoming tea party. In the previous chapters, the box was allegedly filled with explosives and was rigged to explode once opened.
Big Mom’s reaction on hearing Lola’s well-being was quite surprising. The Yonko wants to assassinate one of her own daughters because she refused to comply with a forced arranged marriage. The union would have helped Big Mom to become the pirate king a lot sooner. It is clear that Big Mom merely intends to use every one of her daughters to gain political leverage through their marriages to sons of some powerful clans, the latest being the union of Lady Pudding with Sanji, who happens to be the son of Judge Vinsmoke. Getting her daughter married to Sanji would accord Big Mom control over the genetically enhanced soldiers of the vast Germa 66 army that Sanji’s father, Judge Vinsmoke, currently commands.
Meanwhile, Pedro and Brooke appear to have come to an agreement over who would be bait that would distract the security deployed in and around the Room of Offerings, while the other one attempts to pull off on of the most daring heists. The duo had been planning to steal the poneglyphs, which would help make Luffy the pirate king, for quite some time. However, with Big Mom’s Baron Tamago and Lady Smoothie guarding the poneglyphs along with several other soldiers, the task appears fraught with immense danger.
The upcoming chapter might appear bleak, however, the mangaka has offered a few escape routes. Although Chopper and Carrot continue to remain trapped in Brulee’s Mirror World, the former is in “heavy point.” While Chopper has been shackled in ballooned state, he can easily shrink down to his regular diminutive size, and escape his restraints without much hard work. Once free, he could rescue Luffy and Nami. Together, the trio could re-enter the Mirror World, and use the visual trickery to whisk away Carrot to safety.
Incidentally, Oda did indicate Lady Pudding wanted to be Sanji’s “savior,” however, it was the Black Leg’s idea to get married. Hence it is quite likely the duo will get hitched before any of the Straw Hats members are able to disrupt the ceremony.
Chapter 848 of One Piece manga is expected to be released without a break. Will Sanji go through with the marriage? Will Luffy manage to escape the clutches of an enraged army? Will Pedro and Brooke manage to pull off their daring heist? Hopefully, mangaka Oda reveals answers to these exciting questions in the upcoming chapter.
