‘Gotham’ Stars Morena Baccarin Flashes Ring And Ben McKenzie Gushes Over Engagement

Gotham‘s James Gordon and Lee Thompkins may not be in the best place right now, especially with Lee engaged to another man, but Morena Baccarin and Ben McKenzie, the actors who play those mismatched Gotham characters, couldn’t be happier. It’s no secret that the two Gotham stars have been romantically linked for some time now, but the pair recently revealed that their relationship has taken another big step. Baccarin was only too proud, as she flaunted her new engagement ring at a recent awards ceremony. McKenzie was right at her side and his beaming grin was certainly that of a hopeful husband to be.

Gotham Star Morena Baccarin Shows Off Her Diamond Engagement Ring

Us Weekly reports that Baccarin and McKenzie were attending this year’s Gotham Independent Film Awards at New York City’s Cipriani Wall Street, when the pair shared the news that they had taken their romance to a new level. Morena wore a black, purple, and white floral print gown to the event, but eyes were drawn to one of the Gotham actress’ accessories. The significance of Morena’s new ring couldn’t be denied, as the diamond setting sparkled amid the bright lights of the event.

Ben and Baccarin have been a couple for some time, and unlike their Gotham counterparts, this couple has remained happily together, even bringing their first child into the world earlier this year. In March, Baccarin gave birth to a baby girl, which she and McKenzie named Frances Laiz Setta Schenkkan, after McKenzie’s mother.

“I love that name. We call her Frankie,” Ben McKenzie previously said on the U.K. talk show Harry.

The Gotham actor added that he loves watching Frankie grow, adding that she’s “the cutest thing.”

McKenzie couldn’t help gushing over his new daughter again at the Gotham Independent Film Awards, sharing that Frankie is now 8 months old and a big, curious handful.

“She’s about to crawl. We’re dreading that,” the Gotham star joked. “But she’s great, and it’s wonderful to have family around and celebrate the holidays together.”

Ben McKenzie Boasts Of Having A “Non-Traditional Thanksgiving” With Morena Baccarin And Family

Talking to People before the recent Thanksgiving holiday, Gotham actor Ben McKenzie revealed that his family doesn’t always stick to tradition when it comes to celebrating the holidays. For this year’s Thanksgiving, McKenzie said he and Morena Baccarin would be forgoing the usual turkey and mashed potatoes for some Middle Eastern cuisine. The decision was based in part on a desire to make Ben’s Armenian sister-in-law feel more at home with the rest of the family.

Further deviating from the way most Americans celebrate, the Gotham actor also revealed that they wouldn’t be slaving over a hot stove for the holiday.

“We’re not going to cook, we’re just going to order,” confessed McKenzie. “Too lazy!”

This isn’t the first time Ben McKenzie has celebrated Thanksgiving with a non-traditional meal. The Gotham star found himself away from home, during Thanksgiving, a couple of years ago, and having no other plans, Ben decided to enjoy some Chinese food to mark the holiday.

While the cuisine may not have been the standard holiday fare, McKenzie says it still felt like a special day because of the weather and the festive decorations.

“I really like holidays in New York, it feels appropriately… wintery.”

Speaking of filming in New York, McKenzie offered up a bit of a teaser in suggesting Gotham fans will see the return of some characters who were thought dead. Ben couldn’t offer up further details on who exactly might be returning, however.

While he couldn’t give away too much about Gotham, Ben McKenzie did reveal that he’s happy to be a part of the series, because he has been a Batman fan from childhood.

“I grew up watching the old Adam West version and playing with Batman figurines — I think everyone’s a Batman fan on some level.”

Gotham airs Mondays on Fox.
