Aaron Rodgers can’t escape family drama. The NFL star cut off communication from his immediate family two years ago. With the Green Bay Packers struggling to notch wins this year, all eyes are on Aaron and his off-field interactions, especially when it comes to his estranged family.
According to ET Online, Aaron’s family problems made headlines when his brother, Jordan Rodgers, opened up on Season 12 of The Bachelorette. While Jordan emerged as an early frontrunner for JoJo Fletcher’s heart, he also revealed that Aaron no longer speaks to his family.
This includes Aaron’s parents and siblings, who don’t even know how to get a hold of Aaron because they don’t have his number. Even more, NY Post reports that Aaron recently bailed on a close friend’s wedding and failed to show up at his grandfather’s funeral.
“He didn’t attend his grandfather’s funeral — the same grandfather he once called before every game. He fired a business manager he’s known since high school. The family was told they were no longer welcome in Green Bay,” a source revealed. “If Dad wants to attend a game now, he buys tickets on StubHub or goes through another player’s family.”
Aaron allegedly sent back Christmas presents bought for him in 2014, the same year he started dating Olivia Munn. There’s no telling what happened that caused Aaron to cut ties with his family, and Munn isn’t about to share any details.
“Aaron doesn’t really… I don’t think he’s really talked with his brother,” Munn revealed. “So, I actually don’t know. It’s complicated – I’ll say that.”
Aaron’s family troubles hit a high point when Jordan made it to the final round of The Bachelorette. When asked about his brother’s success on the reality show, Aaron declined to clear the air.
“As far as those kinds of things go, I’ve always found that it’s a little inappropriate to talk publicly about some family matters, so I’m just – I’m not going to speak on those things, but I wish him well in the competition,” Aaron explained.
Despite the lack of communication, Jordan doesn’t harbor any bad feelings for his brother. In fact, during a date with his soon-to-be bride, Jordan revealed that he actually misses talking to Aaron.
“I miss my brother a lot – especially in moments like this because my family means so much,” he told Fletcher.
Jordan and Aaron Rodgers’ brother, Luke, couldn’t agree more.
“It’s something we don’t really like to talk about a whole lot,” he shared. “It pains both of us not to have that relationship. We miss our brother and I trust that God brings things full circle and it’s a wish that everything would just get back to us being a family.”
According to IJR, Jordan opened up about his relationship with Aaron even more after the end of The Bachelorette, J. Although he wishes they talked more, Jordan admitted that Aaron is in a unique situation.
“It’s just kind of the way he’s chosen to do life, and I chose to stay close with my family, my parents, and my brother,” he stated. “It’s not ideal, and I love him. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be in his shoes and have the pressure he has and the demands from people he has. Don’t have hard feelings against him. It’s just how things go right now.”
Meanwhile, Yahoo Sports reports that some analysts are blaming Aaron’s poor play on his family problems. Is Aaron struggling in the NFL because he feels guilty about cutting off his family?
“There’s no explanation for him playing any worse,” a source noted. “People are trying to figure it out. He’s a f**king head case. He knows he’s doing the wrong thing, and he’s so arrogant and prideful that he thinks he can separate his personal life from his professional life, even though all of us know that’s impossible.”
