Tiffany Alberts: Mom Accused Of Injecting Feces Into IV Bag Of Cancer-Afflicted Son

Tiffany Alberts, a 41-year-old mother from Wolcott, Indiana, has been arrested and is now facing trial after it emerged that she had intentionally hurt her own teenage son while he battled blood cancer. According to court documents, Tiffany, on multiple occasions, injected fecal matter into the her son’s IV lines while he was undergoing chemotherapy treatment at a hospital. A report by KTLA adds that Alberts now faces “seven felony charges, six counts of aggravated battery and one count of neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury.” The case is being heard at a Marion County court where prosecutors have alleged that Tiffany knowingly and intentionally inflicted multiple injuries on her own 15-year-old son, creating a high-risk of death.

Investigation into the incident commenced on November 17 after authorities from Riley Hospital For Children complained to police about a possible child abuse case. In the complaint, hospital authorities alleged that the 15-year-old being treated there suffered from several infections that eventually delayed his treatment. Authorities made it a point to note that all the infections had unexplained origins. After hospital officials suspected foul play, they installed video surveillance cameras in the room where the teen was being treated. What they authorities discovered was shocking. As per court documents, hospital staff on several occasions saw Tiffany inject an unknown substance into the IV bag using a syringe. She was caught on camera doing the same on multiple occasions.

When Tiffany was initially asked about the IV injections she claimed that she was only injecting plain water into the IV lines because her son complained to her that the medicine being injected was painful for him and that “it burned.” She also claimed that she was only doing it to “flush the IV line.” However, on persistent questioning, Alberts broke down and admitted that she was, in fact, on a regular basis, injecting fecal matter into the IV lines. When asked for a reason behind her bizarre actions Tiffany claimed that she wanted the hospital authorities to shift her son into another unit at the hospital where she believed he would get better treatment. The easiest way to do that? Make her child sicker. While police officials have recorded her statement, they are still investigating if there was any other motive behind Tiffany’s weird actions.

Meanwhile authorities from the hospital revealed that the boy was first admitted to the hospital in September where he had arrived for the first round of chemotherapy. They confirmed that the child suffered from leukemia. Following the first phase of chemotherapy, he was discharged, only to return a few weeks later. When he was readmitted to the hospital, he was suffering from fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. When they monitored him for the next few days, it emerged that his blood samples had a high number of organisms that are normally found in human stool. The discovery initially stumped doctors since there was no “normal” way of these organisms making it into the bloodstream. It was following this discovery that authorities placed cameras in the room where the teen was undergoing treatment. Within days, they were able to gather footage that explained the boy’s worsening condition. Following her arrest, Alberts told officers from where she got the fecal matter to inject.

While the teenager’s health has improved once he was moved into another room and his mother was arrested, doctors are now worried if the delay in chemotherapy has led them to miss the best window to keep his leukemia in remission. They added that the boy could have died from septic shock had they not discovered what was happening to him. Now they are hopeful of his leukemia going into remission.
