Top 5 Best ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Villains Ever To Appear On The Show

With The Vampire Diaries Season 8 in full swing, it’s time to look back over the series. Once this season is done, we’ll get no more villains from the minds of the TVD writers. There have been plenty over the last seven and a half seasons, too. Just who has been your favorite? Here’s a rundown of the best five Vampire Diaries villains ever to appear on the series.

5. Markos

Markos really was one of the best bad guys to grace the small screen. While the Hollywood Reporter says that he was forgettable and his purpose isn’t really clear, not everyone feels that way. Markos wanted to remove all magic, except pure magic. That meant he wanted to get rid of every type of magic except his own breed’s — the magic of the travelers.

It turned out that witch magic had stopped travelers from being able to congregate in one place. If they did, natural disasters would occur and wipe their group out. It was understandable why Markos wanted this to happen, and he was even willing to destroy the Other Side to see it through. He started to succeed, wiping out all witch magic from Mystic Falls for a short period of time.

4. Mikael

Mikael would not win any awards for father of the year, even before he became a vampire. He was dark, disciplined, and mean. It was likely because of the time he grew up in. This was a man who had to deal with packs of werewolves threatening his family, even killing his youngest son, Henrik.

When he became a vampire, he quickly learned that his son Klaus wasn’t actually his. That led to Esther’s death at the hands of Klaus. It’s no surprise that Mikael wanted to kill the half-wolf, half-vampire and wasn’t stopping at anything to get to it. Unfortunately, The Vampire Diaries didn’t quite utilize him in the best way possible.

3. Kol

While this guy has learned remorse on The Originals, he has to take one of the top spots for The Vampire Diaries’ best villains. He felt nothing while killing for his own gain. He attempted to kill Jeremy to prevent the resurrection of Silas, and that ended with Kol’s death.

Kol’s reign of terror didn’t stop with his death, though. He was brought back when the Other Side started crumbling as Matt found himself over there because of the Gilbert ring. Kol started his revenge plan by killing Matt, although it failed. When he was brought back in The Originals, he didn’t have the best of intentions. Only Davina could help him start taking the path of goodness.

#2. Klaus

Yes, the number one Original has taken the number two spot on the list. He can’t really take the first spot since there is some goodness in him. Even during The Vampire Diaries, he started to show some goodness because family would always come first. Oh, and there was his soft spot for Caroline.

Klaus wanted a number of things, but most importantly, he wanted to be a powerful hybrid with little hybrid followers. That meant one thing for our favorite good guys: Elena’s life was in danger. It wasn’t just Elena, either. Anybody who crossed Klaus was in danger, including Katherine, Damon, Stefan, Bonnie, Rose, and many more.

Honorable Mentions of The Vampire Diaries Best Villains

There are so many bad guys and they can’t all make the list. Here are a few honorable mentions.

  • Katherine Pierce
  • Silas
  • Qetsiyah
  • Wes Maxfield (small part but downright evil)
  • Damon when he doesn’t have his humanity turned on

1: Kai

The top spot can only be taken up by one Vampire Diaries villain in particular. Kai felt no remorse at any point. He was a classic psychopath and was willing to do everything in his power to get what he wanted: merge with his twin and become the leader of the Gemini coven. He was so evil that even the Gemini witches trapped him in a prison world.

Not only did he kill his little brother and his twin sister, he also tortured Bonnie and the rest of our good guys. He even went as far as putting Elena in her Sleeping Beauty curse and got to become a witch-vampire hybrid after finding another prison world where the Heretics were being kept. All the while, he enjoyed the pain he inflicted on others.
