‘This Is Us’ Star Chrissy Metz Must Lose Weight — It Is In Her Contract!

Chrissy Metz’s future on This Is Us might very well depend on her ability to lose weight. The star’s contract with NBC includes a clause about keeping weight off. Will Metz lose enough weight to remain on the hit show?

OK! Magazine reported that Metz revealed the details of her contract during a recent interview. The actress agreed to lose the appropriate amount of weight as her character on the series evolved.

“In our contract, it did state that that would be a part of it, to lose the weight in the trajectory of the character as she comes to find herself.”

Despite the added stress of losing weight for the cameras, Metz is confident she can get the job done. In fact, she believes the weight clause in her contract will actually help her shed weight she’s always wanted to lose.

“That was a win-win for me. Because it’s one thing to try to do it on your own. But as human beings, it’s an ego thing: We’re more likely to do something for someone else.”

That being said, Yahoo reveals that people should have other sources of motivation to lose weight in the long run. In fact, dietician Erin Palinski-Wade warned fans to avoid using short-term motivations when it comes to changing eating habits.

“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with using a contract as a motivation tool, but you still want to focus on the changes you’re making as long-term lifestyle change and not just a quick fix,” she stated.

Palinski-Wade cautioned fans about losing weight quickly and warned against re-gaining weight down the road. She also believes that sharing stories about weight loss will help others find motivation to start a journey of their own.

“Losing weight just to regain it six months down the road isn’t healthy,” she said. “Weight loss is a personal journey. The more people share their story, the more tools and ideas they provide for others’ journeys.”

Of course, that’s not to say that Chrissy Metz is ashamed with how she looks. The decision to lose weight had more to do with health risks than outward appearance. Indeed, Metz insists that bigger women are just as attractive as their counterparts and only decided to shed some pounds because of health reasons.

“Whether or not I lose weight or stay the same, it’s purely a choice of mine for health,” she admitted. “Not because I think that plus size, curvy, voluptuous, big bodies aren’t attractive — because I think they’re awesome and sexy.”

“I’m not selling out the big girls,” she claims. “I don’t do that. That’s not me.”

According to Fox News, Metz’s character on This Is Us mirrors her own struggles in life. Metz plays Kate on the hit drama, a woman who battles weight gain and outward appearances. The character’s struggles resonate with the actress, who believes everyone can relate to something about her story.

“I think everyone has shame about something, whether it’s a lack of a relationship with a child or maybe their weight or a lack of communication within their marriage,” Metz shared. “Everyone can relate to that because we all have something that we’re like, ‘God, I can work on that or I wish I was better at doing this.'”

Metz’ battle with weight gain started when she a young girl. According to People, Metz was ashamed of her body ever since she was 11-years-old. Her mom even enrolled her in Weight Watchers to help lose weight, which didn’t work out.

“I remember being at Weight Watchers at, like, 11 years old and my mom just trying to figure it out for me,” she admitted. “It’s one of those things where it’s heartbreaking because, as a parent, you want your child to have the best life possible and you want them to be protected and in this little bubble where everybody finds them to be beautiful and perfect and their lives to be amazing. But that’s not always the case.”

The actress was bullied for how she looked throughout her young life. Despite trying to live a healthy lifestyle – which included roller-skating and bike riding – she admits that binge eating was her biggest downfall.

“I would not eat,” she explained. “And then of course I would get so hungry I would binge… and it was difficult because my parents were like, ‘I don’t understand, if you’re not really eating, why are you gaining weight?'”

Thankfully, things started turning around for Metz when was 30. Although she blamed others for her eating habits, she had “this epiphany that my life is my own and my choices are my own.”
