President-elect Donald Trump’s decision to live part-time in Trump Tower in Manhattan — along with Melania Trump and son Barron staying at Trump Tower as well, at least until Barron’s school year ends — will cost New York City a pretty penny for the Trump Family’s protection.
According to WGN, those costs to protect Mr. Trump and his family will exceed $1 million each day — and that $1 million per day cost might not decrease substantially once Mr. Trump enters the White House. The publication notes Melania’s plan to remain at Trump Tower with Barron for a period of time — along with expectations that Mr. Trump will come home often to Trump Tower — as indicated by the president-elect himself.
The Trump Tower website calls the building a structure that rises 68 stories “above 5th Avenue between East 56th and East 57th streets.” However, other sources list Trump Tower with at least 10 fewer stories. Either way, Trump Tower is the location of the $100 million three-story penthouse home of Mr. Trump, along with Melania and Barron, as reported by the Daily Mail.
As such, concerns about keeping the Trump Family protected from such a perch are ones that a president-elect has not had to encounter until now. With amazing views of Central Park and opulent decorations, the Trump Tower penthouse represents an expensive locale within the densest and largest city in the nation for authorities to offer Secret Service protection to the soon-to-be First Family Trump.
That Secret Service protection will not only extend to Mr. Trump, Melania, and Barron — but also the adult children of President-elect Trump, as well as Mr. Trump’s grandchildren.
As seen in the above photo, Trump Tower was guarded by counter-terrorism New York Police Department authorities on Monday, November 21. The men were spotted with NYPD on the back of their gear, with helmets — and appeared to be well-armed as they scoped out the area in front of the Gucci store window at Trump Tower in New York.
With the safety of Mr. Trump, Melania, and their family being of the highest concern, police overtime costs represent the substantive expenses being added to those endeavors to protect the Trump Family.
As seen in the above photo, the New York Police Department set up barricades in order to control the foot traffic that moves nearby Trump Tower on Monday, November 21. One block of 56th Street has been closed, and traffic flow on 5th Avenue has been affected by the changes.
With Mr. Trump representing the first president-elect who has needed such a frequent and intense level of security in New York City, the city is facing unprecedented costs to protect Trump, according to Mayor de Blasio. With Mr. Trump traveling through the Big Apple, authorities are faced with shutting down streets as needed.
On Friday, the popular Lincoln Tunnel was closed at rush hour, due to Mr. Trump’s travel to New Jersey.
