Taylor Swift To Play Joni Mitchell In Movie? Singer Addresses Rumors

The rumor that Taylor Swift is set to play folk icon Joni Mitchell in a big-screen biopic is an intriguing one, but it might not have any substance beyond “it’s a cool idea,” according to the singer herself.

The film hasn’t been given the green-light just yet, ans Swift was tight-lipped about her involvement during a recent interview with Time Magazine.

“That’s actually not confirmed,” Swift admits. “I wish I could say it’s confirmed! But the thing about movies that I’ve learned is — I’ve been reading scripts for five years, and you just don’t know what ones are going to get greenlit and which ones aren’t, so I can’t talk about it unless it’s the real thing.”

According to MSN Movies, the Joni Mitchell film will be an adaptation of Sheila Weller’s book Girls Like Us, following the lives of singer-songwriters Mitchell, Carly Simon and Carole King. As far as Swift’s involvement? She’s keen on taking the role, but she doesn’t want to say much until Sony Pictures makes it official.

“I would love to sign on to do a movie if it was the right role and if it was the right script, because I would be taking time away from music to tell a big grand story, and spend all of my time and pouring all of my emotions into being someone else. So for me to do that, it would have to be a story worth telling.”

Swift has only lightly flirted with an acting career thus far, playing a minor role in the 2010 ensemble romantic comedy Valentine’s Day, and providing her voice for Audrey in 2012’s The Lorax, based on the Dr. Seuss book of the same name.

Are you a Taylor Swift fan? Do you think she has the acting chops to pull off Joni Mitchell? If not, who would you rather see play the legendary musician?
