Derrick Rose Dunk During Knicks’ Loss To Wizards Shows Point Guard Still Has It

On Thursday, a Derrick Rose dunk during the New York Knicks’ loss to the Washington Wizards had fans rejoicing following his injury-plagued stint with the Chicago Bulls.

Although the maneuver failed to secure victory for the Knicks on the night, it did show that the point guard is returning to the form that got him named the NBA Most Valuable Player in the 2010/11 season.

Despite the 119-112 loss, Thursday’s game against the Wizards was a high point in the Knicks’ 2016/17 season so far. The team managed the highest number of points that they have scored this season, but it was not enough to register a win over the Washington team, who were led by John Wall.

The Derrick Rose dunk came in the third quarter of the game after the Wizards lost the ball during a drive towards the basket. Rose led a quick counter attack to score for the New York team and cut the deficit to just 10 points. Rose scored a total of 27 points with two rebounds and four assists in 38 minutes on the court.

Derrick Rose has admitted that he needs some time “to shake the rust off” after being sidelined with an injury for a large part of last season, according to the New York Post. He also noted that he needed some time to get used to the Knicks’ offense after his first game for the New York team against Cleveland Cavaliers in October when he scored just 17 points.

Things may finally be taking a positive turn for the New York Knicks, who have lost seven games and won just five this season. Before the game against the Wizards, the Knicks had registered back-to-back wins against the Dallas Mavericks and Detroit Pistons respectively.

The Derrick Rose dunk got many fans excited, but the 28-year-old point guard has noted that it would take some time for the Knicks team to work better together and improve their performance, the News Tribune reported.

Kristap Porzingis, who scored an impressive 35 points on Wednesday during the Knicks win over the Pistons, dropped just 16 points during their loss to the Wizards.

“Tonight was effort,” Rose said after the Knicks loss to the Wizards. “When we see someone down or we see someone where things are not clicking, that’s when we’ve got to come together as a team. So it’s still early in the year. We’ve got a lot more games to play. It just takes time.”

Rose admitted, however, that “no excuses” could make up for the fact that the Knicks lost the game, according to North Jersey. “We have to find a way to win these games,” he said.

While a dunk might not be something so special for other NBA players, it is quite significant for Derrick Rose as his performance has been affected by recurring injuries. According to Slam Online, Rose has made just seven dunks in the past three seasons.

While fans celebrate the latest Derrick Rose dunk and his potential return to top form, a woman who accused the basketball player and two of his friends of raping her filed an appeal in court on Thursday, Yahoo Sports reported.

A court had ruled in October that Rose and his friends could not be held accountable for the alleged incident, which occurred in 2013. The court had ruled that the sex between the plaintiff and the defendants was consensual. The woman is reportedly filing an appeal on the grounds that the court failed to consider some important evidence in the case.

Meanwhile, Rose and his friends, who were accused of rape, are reportedly suing the accuser to cover the legal fees they incurred during the trial.

Do you think that Derrick Rose’s latest dunk means that he is back to his old form? Perhaps another dunk will be in store for Rose when the New York Knicks take on the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday.
