‘Watch Dogs 2’ Update: Game Patch Arriving This Weekend To Enable Seamless Multiplayer?

Watch Dogs 2 fans looking forward to experiencing the game’s seamless multiplayer may receive an update soon that will finally enable this feature. Watch Dogs 2 officially hit the market earlier this week, but it came at launch with a disabled multiplayer mode.

After discovering a problem related to Watch Dogs 2’s seamless multiplayer, Ubisoft chose to delay the launch of this particular game feature.

“During the pre-launch phase of Watch Dogs 2, we were disappointed to discover an issue tied to the seamless multiplayer feature that caused the game to lag and crash periodically,” Ubisoft shared via its official forums page.

It was discovered through testing that the lag issue affected players encountering seamless online, thus, Ubisoft decided to provisionally shut down the seamless multiplayer feature.

“In order to eliminate this issue at launch, we have decided to wait to launch the seamless multiplayer feature until this issue can be fixed, and to make sure it doesn’t impact the core gameplay experience,” Watch Dogs 2’s publisher noted, further adding that fixing this problem is the development team’s top priority.

Through a status update provided today, Ubisoft noted the possibility of having the seamless multiplayer activated as soon as this weekend.

“As you know, we’ve been prioritizing finding a solution to the online connection frame rate issue, so we can activate the seamless multiplayer feature in the game,” the latest post reads.

“We’re currently conducting extensive internal testing of a solution to ensure it causes no regression to the core single-player experience, as well as smoothly integrates into the seamless multiplayer.”

Ubisoft is hopeful that the solution they are currently testing out will work as expected so they could start deploying the fix in a game patch and activate seamless multiplayer. As for the soonest feasible timeframe for when gamers can expect this update for Watch Dogs 2, the publisher is expecting to have it as early as this weekend. However, a possibility still remains that gamers will have to wait longer before they receive the game update that will finally turn on the multiplayer mode.

“But if during these tests we see that the game’s stability with seamless multiplayer still needs work, seamless online will remain deactivated and we will continue to investigate and test solutions,” Ubisoft elucidated, via an update it posted.

The status update for Watch Dogs 2 also clarified that while the multiplayer mode is inactive, gamers can still play its single-player campaign, as well as the co-op mode where one can invite friends through the game menu. But it should be noted that Bounty-Hunter mode and other activities that require outside players entering the game will continue to be unavailable until a game update that will fix the current issues and will activate the feature is finally rolled out.

In Watch Dogs 2, an open world action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft Montreal, gamers take the role of Marcus Holloway, who is “a brilliant young hacker who has fallen victim to ctOS 2.0’s predictive algorithms and accused of a crime he did not commit.”

“In Marcus’ mission to shut down ctOS 2.0 for good, hacking is his ultimate weapon. Players not only can hack into the San Francisco Bay Area’s infrastructure, but also into every person and any connected device they possess to trigger unpredictable chains of events in this vast open world.”

So far, in its Metacritic page, Watch Dogs 2 has a Metascore of 83 with mostly favorable critic reviews. For instance, Cheat Code Central’s review for the game featured on Metacritic cited the wonderful UI of the game while God is a Geek described Watch Dogs 2’s missions to be “varied and intense” and the characters offer “plenty of great moments.”
