Ryan Reynolds Confesses To His ‘Deadpool’ Breakdown And Shares Why He Fell In Love With Blake Lively

Ryan Reynolds wasn’t doing bad before Deadpool hit theaters, but the Marvel film was a big enough hit that it launched its lead to superstardom, leading Reynolds up to a level of fame that he wasn’t necessarily expecting or wanting. Now, after much of the frenzy has died down, Ryan talks about his first time donning the Deadpool suit and the effects that the success of the stand alone Deadpool film had on him, personally. Also revealed in this new interview, Mr. Reynolds talks about wife Blake Lively and the moment he knew she was the one for him.

Deadpool Star Ryan Reynolds Says Success Nearly Drove Him Out Of His Mind

In a new interview with GQ, Reynolds reveals that he had been linked to Deadpool for far longer than most fans probably realize with Ryan debuting the character in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Ryan reveals that his cameo in that film was a risky affair because it was filmed during a writer’s strike and he was compelled to write the lines himself. He says he knew the deviations from the source material, Marvel’s Deadpool comic books wouldn’t be looked kindly upon by hardcore fans, but Reynolds says he was told he would be replaced as Deadpool if he wasn’t interested in the X-Men Origins cameo.

That was Ryan’s first time as Deadpool, but not his most successful. That would come later with this year’s Deadpool stand alone film, a movie which Reynolds began promoting while he was still working on 2011’s Green Lantern. Reynolds says he was all set to get to work on Deadpool, prior to signing on with Green Lantern, but the studio was dragging their feet in getting the go ahead for Deadpool. Ryan went ahead with Green Lantern and found himself in the middle of filming, as plans for Deadpool suddenly got a jumpstart.

That was just the beginning of problems, as far as getting Deadpool made, reveals Ryan Reynolds. Budget constraints changed how several scenes were shot.

“There’s two moments of the movie where I forget my ammo bag. That’s not because Deadpool’s forgetful. That’s because we couldn’t afford the guns that we were about to use in the scene,” says Reynolds.

Shooting Deadpool was a grievous process for Ryan and he confesses to feeling like he was in a fog throughout the process, but that’s nothing compared to how he felt, upon realizing that the film had been a colossal hit.

“I felt like I was on some schooner in the middle of a white squall the whole time. It just never stopped,” says the Deadpool star. “When it ?nally ended, I had a little bit of a nervous breakdown. I literally had the shakes. I went to go see a doctor because I felt like I was suffering from a neurological problem or something. And every doctor I saw said, ‘You have anxiety.'”

Ryan adds that, while he recognizes just how lucky he has been to achieve so much success, he doesn’t necessarily want the attention that goes along with it. He prefers to let his Deadpool persona bask in the glory, while the real Ryan Reynolds hides out in the woods in upstate New York with wife Blake Lively.

Ryan Reynolds Shares The Experience Of Falling For Blake Lively

From the moment they realized there was something between them (they were on a double date with other partners), Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have enjoyed a whirlwind romance that most people only really experience once in their lives and only if they’re really lucky. The New York Daily News shares that, when asked about the first time he knew he was in love with Blake, Reynolds joked that it was “probably after we had sex,” but later gets more serious and reveals the exact moment was even more special than that.

“We were hanging out at this little restaurant in Tribeca that’s open really late, and this song came on and I was just like, ‘Want to dance?'”

Ryan Reynolds recalls the night in vivid detail.

“No one was in there, so it was just totally empty. And it was just one of those moments where halfway through the dance, it was like, ‘Oh I think I just crossed a line.’ And then I walked her home,” shares the Deadpool star. “And, uh, you know, I don’t really need to go into what happened after that.”

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively were married on September 9, 2012, and have a daughter, James Reynolds, who will celebrate her first birthday on December 17. The couple has recently welcomed a new baby to the family, but are keeping details private for now.
