Trump And Alex Jones: Daughter Of Sandy Hook Victim Wants Donald To Disavow The Conspiracy Theorist [Video]

Conspiracy theories played an unusually large role in the recent election, and during the primaries President-elect Donald Trump even appeared (via Skype) on InfoWars, the radio show of noted conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. The relationship between President-elect Trump and Alex Jones is reportedly so tight that after his unexpected election night win, Jones claimed to have gotten a phone call from Donald Trump himself. He’s even saying that Trump is going to take another spin on InfoWars.

As the New York Times reports, according to Alex Jones, Trump’s call to him was one of the president-elect’s first post-victory acts. In a sense, it’s a credible claim. After all, conspiracy theorist Jones was one of Donald Trump’s first die-hard supporters. Even back in the early primaries when nobody believed the former reality TV star had a chance, Alex Jones had his back.

“He was just thanking me for fighting so hard for Americans, and for Americanism, and thanking my listeners and supporters and to let me know that he was working really hard around the clock.”

Jones claims to have advised Donald Trump to “remove a lot of the establishment” and “go after corruption” in his role as commander-in-chief. For his part, Trump hasn’t confirmed that the call to Alex Jones ever happened in the first place.

However, the questionable ties between Donald Trump and alt-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones aren’t going unnoticed. And at least one woman thinks that the relationship between the president-elect (if one exists) and Alex Jones is inappropriate in the extreme, especially given some of the damaging and hurtful conspiracy theories Jones has perpetuated in the recent past.

Namely, the conspiracy theory that the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre of December 14, 2012, was a “false flag,” and that so-called crisis actors were used to dupe the American public into believing 20 children and six adults were brutally slaughtered in the act of domestic terrorism.

As NBC News reports, Alex Jones has “falsely and repeatedly” stated that the Sandy Hook mass murder was “staged,” adding that no one lost their lives in the slaying. According to the daughter of one of the victims, Trump’s relationship with Alex Jones is “unacceptable.”

According to Erica Lafferty, whose mother was Dawn Lafferty Hochsprung, principal of Sandy Hook and one of the victims who lost their lives, Donald Trump should disavow Alex Jones and his relationship with the alt-right conspiracy theorist. Lafferty took her argument against the alleged Trump/Jones bromance to Medium.

“You’ve appeared on Jones’ radio show, praised his ‘amazing’ reputation and promised him that you ‘won’t let him down. Now he’s claiming you’ve personally called to thank him after the election, and will be on his show again soon. That’s unacceptable. It’s unacceptable. I’m asking you to denounce it immediately and cut ties with Alex Jones and anyone who subscribes to these dangerous ideas.”

The Sandy Hook theory isn’t the only conspiracy fringe idea perpetuated by Alex Jones. Jones has also, with great frequency, claimed that 9/11 was an inside job, as well as promoted countless other bizarre conspiracy theories.

As Raw Story reports, Alex Jones has been one of the most successful and prolific conspiracy theorists in recent years, and he has maintained and shared some pretty strange ideas using his media prowess. Some of his most questionable theories, which go beyond his run-of-the-mill thoughts on JFK’s death, include the idea that atheists are Satanists, same-sex marriage is a nefarious plot engineered to result in eugenics and that the government is deliberately making people gay, and that the government is manipulating the weather for an unknown, possibly dark purpose.

“Of course there’s weather stuff going on.”

So far, Donald Trump hasn’t said anything about his alleged call to Alex Jones, nor has he responded to media requests for comment about Erica Lafferty’s demand that he denounce and disavow the alt-right conspiracy theorist and radio host.

What do you think? Is a relationship, even a casual one, with Alex Jones appropriate for the president-elect? Do you think that Erica Lafferty is overstepping with her demands? Do you think Jones is a “conspiracy theorist” or a “truther”? What are your thoughts on the ties between future POTUS Trump and alt-right media maven Alex Jones?
