Joseph Levi: 9-Year-Old Boy Dives To Save Falling Baby Brother, Video Goes Viral

A 9-year-old boy from South Florida is being hailed a hero after a video showing him make a dramatic jump to rescue his baby brother from a fall went viral. According to Fox 13 News, the surveillance camera footage of the incident, which happened sometime last month, was only recently released by the family but soon after became viral. In the video, embedded below, you will see the moment the young boy, now identified as Joseph Levi, making a jump just in time to rescue his baby brother from getting injured.

In the video you will see the mother of both the kids, Tila Levi, placing her younger 11-month-old son on a table. Levi, who has five kids in all, then turns her attention to the other kids in the room. Only a few seconds after she turned away, the infant placed on the rather tall changing table starts making attempts to roll over his stomach. Unfortunately, the table has too little room and if the baby did manage to roll over, he will fall a few feet below — onto the hard floor.

A few seconds later, his left foot is seen dangling in the air even as the mother is unaware. Just when the baby makes the final push to roll over, the alert 9-year-old Joseph senses the danger and quickly jumps forward to catch the falling baby in mid air. In the video, you will be able to see little Joseph lunging forward, arms outstretched to rescue his baby brother. While he does not manage to fully arrest the fall, it is evident from the video that the baby boy would have been injured had he not intervened.

Realizing what had happened, the mother of the two kids Tila is then seen comforting both her kids. In the video, you will be able to see a visibly shocked and relieved Tila hugging both her kids after realizing what just happened. When asked about what he did to rescue his brother, Joseph said that it was pretty clear to him that there was some divine intervention which led him to do what he did on that day. He told reporters that normally he would have never been able to react in such a quick manner.

“I would have never caught him, and I can’t run that fast, so I felt like something came and just pushed me forward and when that happened, I just ran and caught him.”

Joseph also added that he is still not sure how he was able to hold on to the baby who was not light for a 9-year-old boy while adding that he is normally unable to carry the weight of his baby brother.

“I would never be able to do that again because I can’t carry my brother,” he said.

As for Tila Levi, she is full of love and gratitude for her son who averted a major tragedy. Describing the events that happened on the day, this is what Tila said.

“I was just getting everyone ready for bed. I was home alone with the five kids, and at first I said, I messed up. I did something wrong, but then I realized that, really, it was a miracle. I must have done something right to have been deserving of this little guy, running in at the right time and catching him at the right moment.”

Both Tila and Joseph are still amazed at what happened on the day.

“I just said to him, ‘You just saved your baby brother. You saved his life. You’re a hero,'” Tila adds.

While the video generally earned little Joseph all the praise he deserved, some others were not too happy with Tila and accused her of being too careless. While Tila did accept her carelessness for a few seconds, she went on to add that this was a scenario that could have happened with any parent. She also now wants this video and the incident to serve as a reminder for parents to be always alert when they are with their young children.

“It can happen to anybody, and now I know who it’s happened to ’cause everybody’s been confessing about when they dropped their baby, Obviously, I am more careful, but at the end of the day, it happens in a second, and I think that all of our lives can change in a second.”

Like Joseph, Tila too believes that there was definite divine intervention on that day.

“It’s almost like someone pushed him and said, ‘Go do what you gotta do,'” she said. “I’m a believing person. I believe in God. I do believe in miracles. I’d just never seen one firsthand, like, in front of my face.”

She also clarified why the family took so much time to make the video public. Tila says she was encouraged by one of her friends who saw the footage and told her that the video deserves a wider audience. The friend reportedly told her,

“You are such a brave person, and you always try to help other people. I’m not telling you right now, but eventually, one day, maybe you should think about sharing it, because you never know whose life you’re gonna change and who you can help.”

Don’t you think little Joseph Levi deserves a pat on his back?
