Selena Gomez And Justin Bieber Will Face Off At The American Music Awards

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber are preparing to face off at the upcoming American Music Awards.

As Selena Gomez continues to treat symptoms of Lupus in a Tennessee rehab center where she’s been for several weeks and Justin Bieber tends to his Purpose World Tour in Europe, their fans are wondering which singer will take home the award for Artist of the Year.

On November 14, the Daily Mail revealed Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber would be competing for the award at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on November 20. And while Selena Gomez hasn’t officially confirmed she would be attending the event, the outlet claimed the awards show would mark her first appearance since checking into rehab this summer.

As fans will recall, Selena Gomez canceled her Revival World Tour in August months before the series of events were supposed to wrap up and has been keeping a very low profile ever since as she continues to focus on her mental health and future happiness.

Selena Gomez revealed she was in need of some time off months ago.

“As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways,” Selena Gomez said in a statement to People Magazine on August 30. “I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges.”

“I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off. Thank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues,” she continued.

When Selena Gomez canceled her tour, she was in the midst of a short break from her Revival World Tour and had recently feuded online with her ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber.

After Justin Bieber shared a photo of his rumored girlfriend, Sofia Richie, with him in Japan, fans targeted her with backlash and in response, he threatened to make his account private. Shortly thereafter, Selena Gomez weighed in, reminding Bieber that his fans have been there for him since the start and suggesting he stop sharing photos of himself with Richie.

Bieber then fired back at his former girlfriend by suggesting she was using him to get herself attention and Selena Gomez retaliated by claiming she was the one who forgave him for cheating on her multiple times during their years-long relationship.

Later, Bieber hinted that Selena Gomez cheated on him as well before deleting his Instagram account.

In addition to the Daily Mail‘s suggestion that Selena Gomez would, in fact, be present during next week’s American Music Awards, a second report claimed the singer may actually be performing at the event.

“[Selena Gomez] wants her first appearance back in front of her fans to be special and so if she does decide to do the appearance at the [American Music Awards], she will want to do it big with perhaps a dazzling performance or a major announcement,” a source told Hollywood Life.

“Selena Gomez is relieved that Justin has tour dates on the night of the [American Music Awards]… With Justin unlikely to make an appearance at the show there is less stress surrounding the event for Selena,” the source continued. “Even though Selena will always love Justin, it does make things easier for her knowing her ex-boyfriend will likely not be there.”
