‘Fear The Walking Dead: Passage’: Part 5 Introduces A New Character, But Are They Friend Or Foe?

Part 5 of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead: Passage dropped on Sunday night during its companion show, The Walking Dead. Once again, more is revealed about Gabi and Sierra. But, Episode 5 also introduces a new character. The question is, are they a friend or foe?

According to the press release, the synopsis for Fear the Walking Dead: Passage follows.

“The second season of webisodes follows a fearsome survivor, Sierra (Kelsey Scott), who agrees to help an injured woman, Gabi (Mishel Prada), in exchange for an apocalyptic sanctuary. Over the course of their harrowing journey, the women go on to face many dangers and learn what they need to survive. “

Passage is a companion web series for AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead. Last year, AMC introduced the first web series to run parallel with Fear called Flight 462. This series produced a character, Alex (Michelle Ang), that went on to join the cast of Fear the Walking Dead. While Passage may not follow this same direction, it has been previously suggested these characters may know some of the main cast from Fear the Walking Dead.

But, in order for Gabi or Sierra to meet up with the main cast of Fear, they must first survive the web series. And that has now come into question with part 5.

The episode begins with Gabi and Sierra entering a new facility. Sierra is asking Gabi to lead the way, which could be an indicator they have reached the area where the tunnel to Mexico is located. Previously, Gabi had suggested this location as a way to easily get to Mexico. Gabi’s boyfriend had been working the border when the zombie apocalypse hit in Fear the Walking Dead and never returned. As Sierra suggested in a previous episode of Passage, this could mean the tunnel is not a safe access point. Regardless, they decided it was their best option.

When they enter the new location, Gabi seems quite confident and is leading the way. That is until one of the infected lunges at her. Luckily for Gabi, it is confined with a chain around its neck, otherwise it would likely be a quick end to this character in Passage.

Sierra, however, sees it as a safe learning environment. Giving Gabi a knife, Sierra instructs her to kill the infected. At first Gabi is hesitant, but then her confidence builds. As she is ready to lunge, someone shoots the infected, splattering blood all over Gabi.

So, who is the person who kills the infected? Is it someone Gabi will know, therefore making them someone that could, potentially be trusted? Or, alternatively, considering the infected was contained on a chain, could this person perhaps be a sinister character?

As yet, there is no information on this new character, so viewers will have to tune into Part 6 of Fear the Walking Dead: Passage to learn more.

Passage is produced by Dave Erickson, who is also the showrunner for Fear the Walking Dead. Andrew Bernstein is listed as director and producer. Passage is written by Lauren Signorino and Mike Zunic.

Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV, released the following statement about Passage.

“We saw a tremendous response to last year’s Flight 462 so we are excited to again be expanding the world of Fear with another story of survival at the onset of the apocalypse. It’s great to be working with Dave Erickson and the Fear team on this new piece of original short-form content that will continue to engage fans in the series’ off-season.”
