Wanda Sykes Booed Off The Stage For Trashing Trump [Video]

Comedian Wanda Sykes’ anti-Donald Trump riff on Saturday night prompted a lot of boos from the audience. While she was bombing with the audience, Sykes responded by dropping multiple F-bombs along with flipping them the bird.

Sykes was performing at the TD Garden in Boston during a cancer fundraiser when she decided to get political.

“Here’s the thing. After the election, I was going around consoling people. I said, ‘Guys look on the bright side.’ I was telling everybody, ‘it’s going to be okay…’ I was like, ‘I am certain this is not the first time we’ve elected a racist, sexist, homophobic president.’ He ain’t the first one. He’s just the first confirmed one.”

As the audience starting expressing its disagreement and Sykes responded with the F-bombs, she added that “the evidence is there. How can you say he’s not a racist? How can you say he’s not sexist? How can you not say he’s homophobic?”

Sykes was one of several comedians at the benefit for The Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care. A former Boston Bruins star and member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, Neely is currently the NHL Bruins president.

While Sykes may have had a point about past U.S. presidents, the likelihood is that most of the attendees preferred an escape from politics after such an intense election in which Republican Donald Trump won the White House over Democrat Hillary Clinton in a surprise outcome, at least as far as the mainstream media saw it.

Clinton easily won Massachusetts on Election Day by a margin of about 60 percent to 34 percent, and parenthetically, GOP Gov. Charlie Baker revealed that he didn’t vote for either one.

Although part of the entertainment world himself in various capacities, Trump was harshly criticized by many celebrities during the campaign.

“The booing began about five minutes into Sykes’ performance and she stayed on stage to finish her set, also delivering jokes on topics outside of the political realm. But before she left the stage, Sykes flipped the three-quarters capacity crowd the finger when the boo-birds came back out to send her off the stage,” the Boston Herald reported. “As he came out to introduce the next comic in the lineup, [Denis] Leary defended Sykes, telling the crowd she came all the way from L.A. for the benefit and deserved their respect.”

In a statement about the event, Dennis Leary maintained that “[f]or 22 years, we have never censored any performer at Comics Come Home…This has resulted in the longest running stand-up charity event in America. Even this past weekend, 6 of the 8 comics received big laughs and rapturous applause,” the Boston Globe detailed about the annual show that has raised millions for cancer research.

Comic Nick DiPaolo also took some heat from the crowd at the event for edgy comments about liberals, women, and Jewish people, but it was the Wanda Sykes commentary that has attracted the most attention.

“[I]t seemed the crowd reacted far more harshly to Sykes’ take on Trump and the California comedian was quick to fire back,” the Herald added.

In a similar incident last month, fans started booing and walking out of an Amy Schumer show in Tampa, Florida, when she bashed Trump. Amy Schumer is one of many celebrities who promised to leave the U.S. if Trump won the election.

In the aftermath of the election, actor and vocal Trump foe Robert De Niro likened his feelings about 11/9 to 9/11 in comparing the Donald Trump election victory to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, which took the lives of about 3,000 innocent persons.

Wanda Sykes reportedly plans to release a statement on social media about her anti-Donald Trump riff at the TD Garden. Watch this space for updates.
