Eddie Redmayne On Parenting His Baby Daughter: ‘It’s Really Extraordinary’

Eddie Redmayne has opened up about the struggles of fatherhood, according to Entertainment Tonight Online. The 34-year-old, Oscar-winning actor may have welcomed his adorable daughter only four months ago, but he already knows a thing or two about parenthood.

There is no telling if Eddie Redmayne is trying to discourage people from having kids, but in his interview with ET Online, the actor tells the truth and nothing but the truth. Apparently, nothing can prepare people for parenthood, Redmayne reveals.

Eddie Redmayne and wife, Hannah Bagshawe, welcomed their daughter, Iris Mary, in June of this year. There is, however, still one “amazing” thing about preparing to become a parent.

“The amazing thing is everything that everyone tells you beforehand — which is all cliché — is true.”

Eddie Redmayne explained that people who become new parents think they are telling other people “completely new” and “original thoughts” about parenthood, but they’re actually not. People have heard those things over and over again for years, and think it’s all cliche.

“But all the things [like] different parts of your heart opening… it’s really extraordinary.”

Bagshawe and Eddie Redmayne got married in 2014, the same year the actor won an Academy Award for The Theory of Everything. The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them actor gushes that although parenthood is tough, seeing the smile of his daughter is the “amazing thing” about being a dad.

While Eddie Redmayne’s daughter’s smile brightens his dark days and makes him feel better, even when he’s exhausted, it’s also her endless enthusiasm that the actor says is one of the best things about parenthood.

“Waking up every morning and going in [her room] and she’s so excited to see another day.”

Eddie Redmayne is currently promoting the Harry Potter spin-off titled Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

In the Harry Potter spin-off, Eddie Redmayne plays Newt Scamander, a magizoologist who studies magical creatures. The actor is already attached to the five installments of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Eddie Redmayne, who is a proud dad now, says that he’s thrilled about Fantastic Beasts being a five-installment franchise, because it means his daughter will be able to watch all of them when she’s older.

“I feel like we grew up watching those films and getting to dive into that world every year or two. I used to find it so cozy.”

Eddie Redmayne even compares seeing Harry Potter installments every year with “getting a hug every year or two from J.K. Rowling.” The actor also added that he loves the idea of the new generation experiencing something similar.

Although Eddie Redmayne admits that Fantastic Beasts is a “different period,” he assures that it still has that same “warmth and kindness” people grew up with in the Harry Potter world.

Eddie Redmayne may be an Oscar-winning actor, but it doesn’t mean he doesn’t fail at auditions, according to A.V. Club. The actor recently revealed that he actually auditioned for a role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

But it was a very awkward audition, Eddie Redmayne told Uproxx. The actor revealed that as soon as they told him he’d be playing a villain, the actor started putting “ridiculous” voices on, thinking he would nail the Darth Vader voice.

And as Eddie Redmayne kept trying those different voices, casting director Nina Gold just patiently sat there and awkwardly waited until the actor was done. After the actor had tried about 10 different voices, the casting director asked if he had anything else. But Redmayne said simple, “No.”
