Anticipation for Skyfall is running high, and MGM continues to leak Boned-themed morsels, stoking fan-boy excitement. The latest is an exclusive clip, which introduces audiences to the rebooted “Q” played by Ben Whishaw.
Daniel Craig’s latest outing as James Bond debuts this Friday in the UK, though US audiences will know who their next president is before the film hits the states. Early reviews have given Skyfallnearly universal acclaim, and MGM continues to release tidbits to keep audience appetite strong. Via Yahoo Movies, the latest release is a clip featuring the introduction of James Bond’s quartermaster, “Q,” played by young Ben Whishaw.
“In SKYFALL, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost,” reads the official synopsis.
Daniel Craig leads Skyfall‘s all-star cast, which includes Javier Bardem, Bérénice Marlohe, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Whishaw, Albert Finney, Helen McCrory, Ola Rapace, and Dame Judi Dench. Sam Mendes, director of the Oscar-winning American Beauty, makes his Bond debut with the new film.
Before we get to the clip, let’s talk a bit about “Q.” The role was famously played by Desmond Llewelyn from 1963 through 1999, meaning that Llewelyn’s “Q” has worked with every single Bond to date, aside from Daniel Craig. His final appearance as the character was in Pierce Brosnan’s The World Is Not Enough in which his character reveals his intentions to retire, passing the role to John Cleese, who held it through two Bond films until 2002. The character was absent from Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, making Whishaw’s notably younger “Q” the first depiction of the character in a decade.
But enough talk. Here’s Ben Whishaw’s “Q” in a scene from Skyfall:
