Dishonored 2, the sequel to the highly-acclaimed 2012 video game Dishonored, was recently released. Though the second installment in the series is receiving critical-acclaim so far, video gamers who are playing the personal computer (PC) version of the title are running into numerous problems. Fortunately, Bethesda Studios has provided some potential fixes to improve the frame rate.

According to a written article by Gamespot, it reports that Dishonored 2 is “bloody brilliant.” In relation to the story, it continues where Dishonored left off and though its delivery is very simplistic and linear, the setting fictitious city of Dunwall makes up for it. The world that both Corvo Attano and Emily Kaldwin have to traverse is so intriguing because it has elements of steampunk yet history is tangible in every detail. The other characters outside of the two main characters are interesting too. Overall, it is a game worth playing just like its predecessor.

Sadly, gamers who are playing Dishonored 2 on the PC are not enjoying it as much compared to those playing it on the Playstation 4 or Xbox One. According to a written article by GameRant, it reports that Dishonored 2 players on the PC are reporting problems for the game. The most notable problem being reported are substantial frame rate dips while playing the game. Some even claim the frame rate drops to as low as 13 frames per second. That is really bad.

Fortunately, Bethesda Studios is working on a patch to fix these PC problems and from what reports say, it will be available sometime in the following week. Until then, they provided three quick solutions to improving frame rate until the patch releases. The first is to update PC drivers. Dishonored 2 was tested with the latest Windows 7/8/10 and DirectX update so if gamers are behind on their recommended updates, it will surely hinder the game. Second is to eliminate background applications and processes. This means closing all other applications so that Dishonored 2 is the only process running on a PC. Finally, they recommend lowering settings especially if the computer is running more than 1440p resolution.

In a follow-up written article by PC World, it reports a more thorough reason on why Dishonored 2 is running poorly on PCs. Utilizing multiple run-through plays of the first level in the docks, the people behind the website tested the six present graphic presets on numerous PCs utilizing different graphic cards. The first issue is that dropping to a lower preset seems to not really matter. Apparently, Bethesda Studios is confusing the six presets of very low, low, medium, high, very high, and ultra with very low ultra, low ultra, medium ultra, high-ultra, very high-ultra, and ultra-ultra, a common issue for id Tech games actually. We could go into thorough detail about distance and geometry, but the aforementioned explanation is probably good enough in detailing the issue at hand.

And to make matters worse for PC gamers, the player support is terrible as in there is hardly any. Right now, there are some hacks gamers can use to improve the game as best as they can.

It is a shame that PC gamers are getting shafted when it comes to Dishonored 2. From what gamers and critics are saying, it truly is a fun experience and worth spending your money for. But if all PC gamers are going to get are issues, it is best to wait for the patch to come out first. If they can’t wait, they might have to bite the bullet and play it on a console.
