Adele Targeted By Internet Trolls After Son’s Birth

Adele is being targeted by Internet trolls shortly after giving birth to her first child.

The 24-year-old British singer welcomed her son with boyfriend Simon Konecki on Friday. But not everybody is responding positively to the happy news. Some Twitter and Facebook users have posted nasty and mean-spirited comments about the singer, her weight, and her new son.

One Twitter user named Vanessa Bieber wrote, “Aw Adele gave birth to a baby. Is it fat and handicapped lol? Just murder it already lol.”

Another user named Lauren Greenberg wrote, “Even Adele secretly hopes she’ll have postpartum depression.”

Other users have posted similar thoughts, adding that postpartum depression would make good songwriting material.

Unfortunately, Adele is not the first celebrity to be targeted by trolls. X Factor judge Gary Barlow received several mean comments following the stillbirth of his daughter in April. And diver Tom Daley was also the target of Twitter abuse regarding his late father during the London Olympics earlier this year. The user was arrested shortly after.

Adele and Konecki have yet to publicly confirm their son’s birth. But the singer did confirm her pregnancy on her website on June 29. She wrote, “I’m delighted to announce that Simon and I are expecting our first child together. I wanted you to hear the news direct from me.”

Now that Adele is a new mother, her third album will focus on motherhood, according to friends. The singer has reportedly told friends that she wants to “release a happy record now” and that she’s “never been happier.” She is expected to release a new album next year. For now, she is taking time off and skipping the premiere of Skyfall — for which she wrote the theme song — to be with her baby boy.
