Police: Chicago Toddler Stomped To Death By Mother’s Boyfriend

A Chicago toddler is dead, and her mother’s boyfriend is behind bars, after police says she was violently beaten and stomped to death. The Chicago Tribune reports that one-year-old Railyana Vasquez died from her injuries on Tuesday, and autopsy reports have shown that she suffered numerous injuries associated with alleged child abuse. Now that the child is dead, the man accused of killing her could spend the rest of his life in prison.

Police say that 22-year-old Uriel Vega was entrusted to care for his girlfriend’s one-year-old child last week. The mother of the little girl had attended church while the Chicago man was to watch the little girl, but instead of caring for her, he reportedly violently assaulted her — which ended in her death. Police say that Vega began the assault by yanking the baby off the couch and throwing her from the kitchen into a bedroom.

Once in the bedroom, the man allegedly stomped on the Chicago toddler’s abdomen, which reportedly caused serious damage to the little one’s small body. South Side Patch reported that the man called 911 after the assault, when he realized that the infant had trouble breathing. He claimed that the baby’s eyes rolled back in her head at the time. By the time the authorities were called to the scene, the child was unresponsive.

Raiylana was declared dead on Tuesday, after succumbing to the injuries associated with the alleged incident. An autopsy has concluded that the Chicago toddler suffered from numerous injuries, which included a lacerated liver. She also had multiple severed arteries, along with a severed pancreas. Doctors found other injuries associated with alleged child abuse, which led them to officially declare her death a homicide.

Sadly, this isn’t the first time a child has been killed while under the care of a parent’s romantic partner. Earlier this fall, a Michigan couple was arrested after a three-year-old child died in their care. The child’s father, and his girlfriend, are accused of abusing the child. However, both adults claim that the boy fell down the stairs in their home on accident.

Also this year, a Texas man was arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend’s six-year-old child. Chron reports that 26-year-old Evan David Nolan was the alleged caregiver for the lad at the time of the incident, which ended in the child suffering fatal injuries. Authorities say that the little one suffered from internal injuries, along with significant injuries to his head. The six-year-old Houston child clung to life for two days, following the reported assault.

In 2014, a four-year-old boy was starved, beaten and burned to death by his father’s girlfriend. The Daily Mail reports that the violent incident took place just a short time after his father was awarded full custody of the child. Unfortunately, prior to the custody battle, the child’s own biological mother had also been accused of child abuse.

As for this latest case, authorities say that Uriel Vega has admitted, during a taped interview, to violently assaulting the Chicago toddler. They have also confirmed that the slain baby’s mother has been investigated in the past by The Illinois Department of Child and Family Services. However, the investigations turned out with nothing. Could anything more have been done to prevent the senseless death of this child?

The man accused of killing the little girl is currently being held without bond. If he’s convicted of the first-degree murder charge he’s been given, he could find himself in prison for the rest of his life.
